Hello paradise 😎 #elnido
The night sky isn’t only blue in Paris. #unfiltered This unfiltered photo of my childhood church #SanVicente #Bogo
Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise - Maya Angelou, Still I Rise (at Nailon)
Balloons, yellow and red
It has been 6 years since I last attended a Sinulog mass.
That was way back 2011, the year I started working as a nurse. Much was different then, the set up was different, the crowd seemed more, but most significantly, today, I come alone. I use to go with friends or colleagues but having been away for a long time, it is a struggle to organize a meeting, much more a visit to one of Cebu’s most important and heavily crowded events. Plus the fact that it was 4:00 am.
There is a strategic reason to why I decided to attend the church that early. Little did I know that thousands of Cebuanos and pilgrims all over the country have decided to visit the same time as I. With little explanation, the plan backfired.
So as I made my way to the thicket of human bodies, and stalls, and vehicles, my aim was simple, when you see that little sign called Entrance just go for it, relentlessly. I was in competition with others who were as eager and as determined as I. I can do this I said. I have been through something worse like the 2012 Diamond Jubilee in London or the Thanksgiving Day parade in New York. So I got this.
It did not end well.
I find myself outside, sandwiched between a nagging housewife and someone who appears to be the-not-so-lucky husband. I was caught in between. This is not how I imagined my morning would be.
But suddenly the song played: 🎼🎵🎶 Batobalani sa gugma, sa daang tawo palangga..Kanamo maluoy ka unta, nga kanimo nangilaba🎵🎶
There is a magic to this song. As a catalyst of wonderful memories of College, of Friends, of Mama, of Home. The lyrics are heartwarming and soothing, something that most Cebuano Catholic Christians are all too familiar. Towards the end of the song, people released balloons colored yellow and red- the colors of Sto. Niño. Some bear letters of petitions and thank yous. I found myself staring into the dark skies of Cebu now filled with yellow and red. It was almost trance-like.
As I was staring into that dark abyss, I couldn’t help but wonder- the balloons, the whales..oh no.
I haven’t been for 6 years and although much has changed, my belief and faith for the Sto. Niño remain unchanged.
And although I wouldn’t know when the next visit will be, I rest assured.
The Sto. Niño will remain where it should always be. Right here ❤️.
Failures, anyone?
After a futile attempt to sleep (before a night shift), I find myself sitting in my study chair, overlooking this small stretch of Southcott mews and it dawned on me- I have been failing quite a lot, lately.
I was never the one to fail often. I did not excel in sports but I did well in my studies. I was shy, awkward, and slightly insecure growing up but I kept a small group of friends whom I can laugh the hardest and talk for hours without ever being bored.
I actually once believed that to be successful in anything, one has to fight the battles they know they are going to win. I believed in this. I only fought the battles confined within the ‘safe zones’ - the ones I knew I was going to win. I never took big risks!
But I have been failing quite a lot, recently. Could they have been avoidable? Or have I been going out of my comfort zone more and more? Taking more risks, fighting the battles that I am uncertain to win? I will never know.
Being safe most of my life, I find myself pained and hurt. I knew I deserved that!? That was unfair!? You have no right!?
Failures, anyone? I suppose I have to accept this and get on with it. After all, bad decisions make good stories.

Everyday I'm reminded how blessed I am. Every waking day above ground is always a day worth celebrating! I saw this lovely sight inside the National gallery and it just lifted me. It has been a very tough start of the year and who knows what more will be in store. But I'm reassured that all will be well, in fact it will be better! So I choose to move forward with optimism. Just because it started tough doesn't mean it'll end rough! 2017, I'm gonna make you proud!
Have a crackling 2017 everyone! #2017

All my good friends here in London know how much I like japanese stuff and how I adore there concept of minimalism. So for lunch, I figured to try this place in the heart of #picadillycircus. I've passed it countless times, finally made the effort to stay. I wasn't disappointed. The #tsuya pancake is a must. It even came with a free cup of traditional #japanesegreentea #asian #japaneseconfectionery (at Minamoto Kitchoan London)
