the request doesn’t surprise him, though he’s not sure if it’s laziness or something else that’s keeping howard from wanting to go. regardless, obadiah’s not entirely resistant to the notion. some time alone with pierce would be fairly beneficial, given the man’s influence. still. ❛ and you wait until now to ask me? ❜

following the formation of the order and the arrest of jes.sica j.ones ( @coboltlane ) and sam wright ( @tenccs ), posters for a movement against the accords, the order, and the superhuman restraint unit begin appearing in new york city and circulate online. 

it is unknown who leads the group, but it is actively recruiting, and becoming popular among unregistered enhanced individuals who refuse to sign the accords or join the champions initiativ———

okay. okay, yeah. that’s fair. it’s a warranted critique of his plan; he got along with spirit because they shared something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, but not everyone would get that. no one normal and easily controlled, anyway. zeke stands very still, hardly even breathes. “ — it was a bad idea.”

 he takes immediate responsibility for the mistake. it’s easier that way – even if he does think that having someone on the front lines of this would be better than no one. zeke certainly can’t do it. he doesn’t want stark to know his face until the last possible moment. his bit of confidence withering, he goes on. “ — there are others. they all want to fight back against the accords.”

he watches patiently as zeke withdraws. “i appreciate your enthusiasm,” he says it with a carefully guarded expression. ezekiel has been working hard, he won’t deny that, but he’s letting his ego catch up with him ― getting ahead of himself.

“of course they do.” who didn’t love a rebellion? it wasn’t garnering support that had him too concerned, but if they were going to put a face to the resistance it had to be someone smart, someone they could control, and someone who could earn the support of thousands more. a sympathetic martyr. “but we need the right person to be the face of this ― movement.”

she’s pretty. she’s cool. she didn’t freak out when i said i wanted to murder stark and i meant it. zeke doesn’t say any of this, though he probably should. he feels like he’s lying to his father when he doesn’t say exactly what he’s thinking about something, and this feels, for whatever reason, especially important. zeke stands a little straighter, tries to shuck off the rising guilt as he looks at obadiah.

“ yeah. she hates him too. wants to kill him. “ spirit didn’t say that in so many words, but. zeke thinks she’d be up for it. “i think she’s a mutant or something. her name is spirit. i’m trying to find out more about her but – maybe she can be the face of this thing. so… so we don’t have to be. y’know. once i get wright and jones out of that prison.”

this is, admittedly, one of the pitfalls of having a child who so rarely interacted with others. zeke has latched on to the first different girl he’s run across, and it’s not that obadiah doubts her usefulness — any mutant (frankly, any person) willing to kill stark was a benefit — but he’s certainly not about to slap her face on this ‘resistance’. 

he sighs, long and slow, and shifts in his seat. “you met a strange girl immediately willing to murder stark with you — and you think that’s who we should use to appeal to others?” perhaps this is his fault, but he thought zeke would be able to handle this better. it’s not that he’s done anything wrong, it’s just — it’s not right, either.

keep it cool, zeke.  he’s just come back from his outing which went… far better than he could have ever anticipated. it’s been a few hours and he still has no idea what to make of spirit – zeke just knows girls his age are NOT all like that. “ – i’ve um. i’ve found a girl who wants to help me. with. like. y’know. the stark problem. ”

he’d like to think that, at least in some ways, he knows his son. perhaps not what his favorite movie was, but his mannerisms, the little things that really made him tick, made him - amenable. when he looks at zeke, he can feel the disappointment rise. something about the situation is off. a girl.

he raises a brow, expression stern and hands curled tightly. “ oh? ” it’s casual, but his expression is sharp. perhaps this was too much responsibility for zeke. he’d hate to have to do something so simple himself. he tries to remind himself that zeke has earned a degree of trust, but this – zeke is still new to the rest of the world. he has little time or patience. he won’t wait for zeke to grow up.

tony’s not sure he believes that. mom and dad sure seem to like their parties – when they’re hosting and when they’ve been invited. tony’s even seen obie enjoy himself, too. ❝ – no. but it sure helps. c’mon, obie. i’ll be the coolest kid in class if i threw a huge party here tonight.  ❞ he has a lopsided grin, though. ❝ you could just. go home early. or take a nap. it’s fine. no one’s gonna care. ❞
