A new equatorial dial. Lots to do but making progress.
The paradox of intolerance posited by Karl Popper states that a truly tolerant society must not tolerate intolerance. When unchecked, intolerance will exploit an open society and destroy/erode tolerance thru authoritarian or oppressive practices. As one minister in Maine noted ‘Jesus didn’t give equal time in church to the Devil’
Artist Blacksmith turned 6 today!
Starting a new sundial
Finished the brooms (mostly)
Starting to layout a couple of new sundials
Solvitur ambulando is a Latin phrase generally assumed to have originated with Augustine of Hippo and means "it is solved by walking". Trying to get thru a problem by spending the day wandering and watching artisan broom makers and blacksmiths…
I forged some onion grill cleaners, aka cebollas, very quickly in response to a request for a fundraiser item. I seemed to be the only one unhappy with them so decided to get a bit more serious. This especially true since BBQ season is quickly approaching.
While I was laid up I decided to keep busy by trying to learn enough about broom making to eventually be able to forge fireplace brooms. I felt better forging all the pieces, including the hearth broom. These are all turkey tail styles brooms and also all crooks ends. Decided to hang them all up because, well you’re not supposed to stand brooms up, and they take a lot of space laying down. And I had the hangers left from another project, so hung ‘em outside the forge door.
First bit of serious forging after a year or so of wild medical rides. This is the first of two simple sundials that will be donated to a local rep theater fund raiser
Parts and Pieces
The last bit of experimenting with brooms. Wanted to get thru the latest/last round of rehab and the brooms gave me a needed respite before getting back to the forge.
Trying to learn some broom making skills for fireplace tools and holiday presents
Finally starting to heal up. Back to some beginning forging again
