Hi! I've recently been looking into getting a Impulse so that my Bdubs won't be lonely since I hear they're really friendly, but I heard some stories about Impulses not being super fond of Bdubs (something about clocks) but also I've seen a few videos where a Impulse and Bdubs got along just fine, is it true that they usually don't like each other or is this a thing where I would need to properly socialize them together?
Impulses are generally very friendly and tend to get along with everyone! Bdubs and Impulses tend to get along well, especially if they're well socialized - as long as you keep an eye on them and make sure neither one is being aggressive or scared, things should be fine.
What you've mentioned about clocks is likely about a slightly different variant of Impulses and Bdubs, the Life variant. Life variants of hermits tend to be a bit more aggressive because of their reduced lifespan, but they can still get along! It's just very important to make sure that your Bdubs has a clock, (from my understanding, this is a pretty important thing for your Bdubs to have, regardless of variant and other hermits present) or he may end up causing harm to your Impulse trying to get one.
Overall, I think an Impulse will get along with your Bdubs as long as you make sure both are happy and healthy, but I'd also recommend talking to @is-the-bdubs-video-cute for more information!
I was watching Impulse's stream and this part made me laugh aloud I had to replay it like 5 times so i thought other people here could appreciate the laugh too kldsg
he’s doing experiments! no it’s not an OSHA violation bc Impluse agreed to do a little test besides Zedaph is taking the utmost care to ensure that he is physically separated from the subject when they become enraged and that’s very safe lab practice you know
@is-the-impulse-video-cute you may feel differently but i can’t imagine why
Impulses, like most other hermits, don't do well in tight enclosed spaces with no exits for extended periods of time. This was an (arguably) unethical experiment that this Impulse clearly did not enjoy. Next time, stick with the endermite.
:0 A server? For us? I would be delighted! :D I ALSO agree with Kitsune and Doodle, "The Hermit Analysing Society" is a good name. We'll be "THAS" for short! :D
Skizz: I'm gonna make it into—
Impulse: (high-pitched meow)
Skizz: What?
Impulse: Mew! Mew!
Skizz: Oh, I thought you were sayin' "well".
Impulse: (continues mewing)
Skizz: Okay, that's not—that's, that's not a terrible... meow. But you have to roll your r's a little bit, dude! Frrow! That's how my cat meows.
Impulse: No, not "frrow!" Not "frrow!"
Skizz: Yes, dude, frrow!
Impulse: Frrow! Frrow!
Skizz: (laughs) Not like—
Impulse: Mew! I got a cute— I got a cute little—
Skizz: Not like "kachow!"
Impulse: I got a cute little kitty cat, dude, and my cute little kitty sounds like "mew!"
This is all fun and games! A very healthy environment for a Gem. While a moment of trade may have been interrupted, it is very good for a Gem to have some chaos for enrichment. And this type of chaos is very safe for the Gem, as it is outside her treehouse and cannot hurt her. My only critique is that there aren’t enough windows to watch from.
@is-the-pearl-video-cute and @is-the-impulse-video-cute any thoughts?
This Impulse is enjoying a harmless moment with some of his friends. The pressure mentioned from the XB, as well as the Pearl's death had the potential to cause some stress, but the quick recovery, as well as the aforementioned protection from the chaos means that this was a perfectly safe and enriching environment.
This cave is clearly not safe for most hermits, and this Impulse is no exception! The mobs targetting the Gem have activated this Impulse's protective instincts, and while useful in the wild, it can lead an Impulse to making charactarstically impulsive choices that can leave them harmed in the aftermath. This Impulse should be removed from the situation post haste and placed in a safe enviroment where it has time to calm down, preferably in the same room with the Gem showed in the clip so this Impulse won't be anxious about her safety.
My Impulse keeps trying to build farms that are far too big for him to reasonably manage by himself. I try to offer all the support I can and make it a safe environment, but he's managed to get himself hurt once or twice in a raid. Is there any way I can help my Impulse stay safe while still supporting his creative instincts?
If your Impulse is attempting farms too big for him to manage, one of the easier ways to deal with this is to limit his ability to access the materials necessary to build such farms. That being said, I would not discourage doing so, as the lack of access to resources could make your Impulse very stressed and possibly make him resent you.
Instead, I would advise getting him a friend to help him with his farms. If you have the ability to do so, another hermit like a Tango or a Zedaph would be a wonderful addition to your home, and a good way to give your Impulse some help with his farms. They're also very likely to improve your Impulses mood in general, as Impulses, like most hermits, tend to do better with friends.
However, if you are unable to acquire or care for another hermit, you can help your Impulse out yourself. If you're not great with redstone, tutorials can be a great help, but you don't necessarily need to do much redstone - just try to fend off any mobs that might cause your Impulse harm! If he's attempting a raid farm, make sure he has good armour and weaponry, and try to keep any ravagers far away from him. You can also offer to double-check his redstone before he turns the farms on, though errors can still be made.
Hi there, I'll be taking care of my friend's Impulse for a few days, what temporary enclosure would be safe for him? I also have a Keralis, should i separate them for when the Impulse is here?
For a temporary enclosure, the first matter is to make sure it's big enough - you can get away with something smaller than a long term enclosure would be if it's just for a few days, but it still can't be too small! Ideally you'll want enough space for three or four farms - not that the impulse is likely to build that many in just a few days, but he'll need space to roam, as well as an area for a starter house.
It's also important to make sure that you have the resources to keep the Impulse entertained! a good supply of redstone is always good, but you'll need food as well - most hermits tend to have somewhat similar diets, so whatever you've been feeding your Keralis should work. You'll need to make sure you have the extra food though, as we wouldn't want either of then to go hungry!
Impulses tend to be pretty friendly and get along with most hermits, so you shouldn't need to separate him from your Keralis unless either of them start behaving oddly or appearing aggressive or stressed. That being said, I'm not the most knowledgeable on Keralises, so I'll ask @is-the-keralis-thing-cute if they have any further advice!
My neighbor's Gem keeps asking my Impulse to build her farms on their playdates. Is it alright to let him build her these farms? I don't want to discourage our hermits' friendship, but I also don't want to stress my Impulse??
Building farms is great enrichment for your Impulse! Unless he is showing signs of stress or strain, I see no reason to remove him from that situation as he is probably having lots of fun!
Gems and Impulses tend to get along very well together, as Gems often even help the Impulses build up their farm either through decoration or following instructions given out to them.
If you still feel that your neighbor's Gem is asking too much of your Impulse, just keep an eye on the situation and monitor your Impulse's behavior! If the Impulse is indeed stressed from the work, I suggest talking to the Gem about why breaks and lighter work loads are necessary for your Impulse!
If the Gem continues to ask for strenuous farms, it might be needed to remove your Impulse from the situation.
@is-the-gem-video-cute might have some more imput on this when it comes to telling the Gem to "chill" on the farm building requests!
How does one acquire an impulse? They seem so friendly, but I don't think just inviting a wild one home is a good idea - who knows what industrial districts they've already got going that would get neglected.
impulse's are a good choice for a first time owner, as they tend to be pretty easygoing and to bond quickly. that being said, like all hermits, they take a lot of resources to keep them healthy and happy! before you adpot, make sure you have the resources - particularily redstone, for an impulse - necessary to take care of one.
as for actually acquiring one, if you find an impulse in the wild, you should most definitely leave them alone! they most likely have a whole array of projects back home, and taking them away from them would cause the impulse a great deal of stress. wild impulses are also often a much bigger undertaking than a domesticated version - they'll need much more space and resources than a domesticated impulse would, along with being more prone to aggressive tendencies.
where you should acquire them instead is from a shelter - look up shelters in your local area, and see if they have any available. i'd suggest spending some time with the impulse before you adopt, to make sure they're a good fit for you. then bring your impulse home!
