Today I decided to go and get myself a refurbished PS4 to fill the video game void that has been in my life since the house fire last year.

Tbh I had been thinking that I might get myself a PS5 at some point but seeing as they are now around $1000AU and Sony is about to stop selling games as discs and there really haven’t been any games that I’ve really wanted to play on a PS5 I figured that a PS4 and building back a small collection of games on discs would scratch that itch.

So for around $250 I’ve got a PS4 Pro with a 1TB drive plus GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassins Creed Black Flag, and a copy of FIFA 22 (I want to build up a few seasons so I can play with teams that have now retired players like Andrea Pirlo and Tim Cahill). I’ve still got some games on my PlayStation account too so I’ll download them too, but my plan is to have a bit of a collection on disc so that I can play retro games that I enjoy again.

My shopping list for now is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Last of Us Part 2 (the greatest video game ever made IMHO), Watchdogs Legion (so I can run around London) and the Uncharted series plus a few more. The thinking is that what I want is to be able to enjoy playing games without all of the ‘noise’ of online gaming, recommendations and the constant pressure to upgrade, hence having a collection of primarily physical media instead of downloads where possible. Plus with the PS4 now being end of life, games are cheap as chips - score!

FWIW I hope that Tuchel stays on as England manager. He's pragmatic, his style seems to largely suit an England team and perhaps, just perhaps with him in charge we might be able to do something for Euro 2028, we are after all one of the host nations.
