What i've been noticing. ALERT for the Art Community

My dear artist friend, I believe something like this is happening to you too. Users with fake accounts posting comments claiming to want to buy commissions. It's a scheme to collect your personal information. Be wary when someone appears who doesn't even follow you, hasn't liked other creations (sometimes not even the current one they commented on), and other interactions that are very important. How does it work? The person will ask you to DM them. I believe this is to make it seem like they chose you (something that doesn't happen with real commissions) and they start with a brief conversation about how they liked it. I know how tempting it sounds, I know how good it is that they like our work. (You're amazing anyway, okay?) Then the conversation unfolds, with them stalling until the point of payment arrives. (In my case, the person didn't even know how to pretend to be a buyer, as they didn't even know what they wanted when I sent them my portfolio. They didn't even ask any questions or clarify any doubts.) What happened to me was a scammer/phisher who wanted me to send money, pretending to be PayPal. A very fake email was sent pretending to be PayPal and asking me to send the amount in order to validate the payment, which makes no sense at all. Why would I have to pay the same amount to receive the same amount? That's not how payment verification works. These are small amounts, cents, to verify the account, nothing big like $45. Be careful, dear artist friend. I reported these accounts and then blocked them. Be careful with people like this. The second part is something I've noticed. They also comment to reduce engagement on your posts. I've noticed this for a while now: every time one of these people comments, my engagement drops. Regardless of whether you report and then block, the result is always the same. Your post will no longer reach out. So, post again or take a moment to post again later. And let's spread this message to our fellow artists. Strengthen our community.

Seriously! WTF?

Why are there so many fake profiles showing up on artists' posts and leaving the same comments asking for commissions? It's exhausting! We're trying to get REAL engagement from REAL PEOPLE, and these fakes show up, drop the most generic message, and mess up our posts.

Seriously... Why is this happening so often lately? I just posted, and two of those “bots” (I’m not even sure if they’re actual bots) already commented the same exact thing on my latest post. Like, come on! How are you trying to commission me if you’ve only seen ONE post?

From what I know, someone genuinely interested in your art is going to look through your profile, see if you have more work, maybe follow you—or at the very least LIKE the damn post! Maybe even share it. But no... it's always those fake comments.

And if you message them, it’s a waste of time. They don’t really want a commission—they just want to scam or string you along.

For God’s sake! We’re actually trying to build something here! Stop burying artists’ posts under fake engagement!

There’s space for everyone. The world is huge. So please... just stop.

A little bit of a dialogue from my book. “So… is this what you do every day?” Alec’s voice broke the silence, his tone curious, though laced with amusement. She shot him a sideways glance.

“More or less,” she replied, trying to sound unaffected. “Some days we repair and maintain the books, clean the space, handle research requests, send and receive letters for the survivors on the registry—different things.”

He leaned casually against a nearby shelf, watching her with that unreadable, predatory expression that always made her stomach tighten. "How does yyou manage to do this every day? It seems utterly exhausting."

She chuckled softly, surprised by his interest. “It’s not so bad. Reading and writing have always been hobbies of mine. I enjoy it. But you…” she gave him a once-over. “You don't strike me as someone who spends much time with books.”

He raised an eyebrow, lips curving into a sly smile. “You underestimates me far too often, darling. That can be dangerous, you know?” His voice lowered, and before she could react, he was closer, his body a whisper away from hers. “Underestimating someone leaves you exposed… vulnerable.”

She met his gaze, heart pounding but refusing to show it. “I like to take my chances.”

His smile widened, dark amusement flickering in his eyes. “Intriguing.” He leaned in even closer, his breath brushing her skin as he whispered, “But no, you're right. I’m far too pretty to be obsessed with reading.”

“Ugh, you're impossible,” she groaned, rolling her eyes, though the pulse in her neck quickened.

“And yet,” he sighed dramatically, pressing a hand to his chest as though struck by some deep revelation, “You wishes I were more sensitive, don’t you?”

His dramatic flair made her laugh despite herself. “Maybe a little,” she teased.

“Fine!” he declared, as though making a great concession. “If you must know, it’s more out of curiosity than anything else. I wasn’t allowed to read in the past, so now I’m giving it a try, and—" He paused, his smirk softening slightly. “It’s not that bad.”

her eyebrow quirked, curiosity piqued. “And?”

His expression shifted, growing more teasing. “What? I’m not about to give you my entire life story all at once. But for now, let’s just say I didn’t have access to books… even when they were right in front of me.”

“That makes no sense,” she muttered, reaching for a particularly heavy tome on the top shelf. The stretch was awkward, and she had to hang onto the edge of the shelf for balance, hesitating when the thought of the whole case toppling over crossed her mind.

The finished art. Have you watched the series? Have you finished it? I still want to watch it, the spoilers have made me really want to watch it. Jinx is a very well developed and complex character, I really like it.
