Did you know Richard Dawkins tweets?

Mr. Dawkins speaks of belief upon evidence, yet, when the onus of providing on evidence fell on him, he failed to do so.

Dawkins’ justification of his failure to give proof for his sweeping statement is intrinsically flawed; as it could be…

Dawkins is an Islamophobic shithole, and this would be true whether he were an atheist or not. The thing that bothers me is how Dawkins uses his personal, absence-of-religious doctrine to advance bigotry in the same way various religious institutions do in order to bolster their own power and authority. The problem in all cases is not the religion but the presence of shitty human beings, who exist everywhere, in all religions, Dawkins being a prime example if we view militant atheism as its own religion.

I’d been told before that he’s a bit of a dick. Reading his twitter stream confirms this.

This kind of intense, hateful stereotyping gives atheists everywhere a bad name, and that Dawkins has been appointed the leader of a movement through this sort of drivel is proof that there are blind idiots everywhere…it doesn’t matter what they do (or don’t) worship.

Saying “there would be no war without religion” is similar to saying “there would be war without people.” Except that only the second statement is actually true. But neither matter, because they suppose a world which is impossible and cannot exist, y’know, unless we’re talking about genocide…or asteroid impacts.

He’s just intensely (perhaps willfully) ignorant of how individual humans and collective cultures operate.

In the end, Dawkins seems to be mostly concerned not with the betterment of mankind, but with the betterment of Dawkins.

It’s a pity that people like this walk on our earth. I have nothing against any religion whatsoever, or people without a religion, and I expect the same kind of common decency in return. 

Religion makes wars?

No Mr Dawkins, it is people like you who make them.

I wildly disagree that religion doesn't make war. Am I saying that religion is the only reason for war? Absolutely not. But does religion contribute greatly to strife and large scale disagreement? Yes. Religion gives people a reason to hate/dislike each other on a much larger scale. Once you bring omnipotent beings into the picture and the belief in some nirvana afterlife, killing someone in the name of your God doesn't seem all that wrong.

Today I was in the supermarket and I happened upon one of those dollar book bins, and had this uncontrollable anxious feeling well up in my gut. It scares the crap out of me to think that a book of mine could end up there. I know that even if my book does end up there I should be happy, shit, I am published after all. But I can’t help but think that if that happened I would deem myself some sort of failure. I’m not saying I expect to be Stephen King, but seeing that sad pile of disregarded books being sold for a dollar is frightening. I don’t know if I’m the only person that has these thoughts.

In fact, you could argue that the reason that we haven’t been visited is that [aliens] have already observed us and concluded there’s no sign of intelligent life here. I mean, if you have a spaceship that can cross the galaxy, you’re way smarter than us, because we have nothing that remotely approximates that. So why would we assume that we would be interesting enough that they would want to study us? That’s just humorous. How interested are you when you walk past a worm crawling on the ground? Do you ever say, “Hey, I wonder what that worm is thinking?” I’m sure you’ve never had that thought in your life. You might have even just stepped on the worm. So, imagine a species with that intelligence gap interacting with us. They could not come up with a stupid enough thought that could stoop as low as to fit inside of our brains.

It saddens me to see girls proudly declaring they’re not like other girls – especially when it’s 41,000 girls saying it in a chorus, never recognizing the contradiction. It’s taking a form of contempt for women – even a hatred for women – and internalizing it by saying, Yes, those girls are awful, but I’m special, I’m not like that, instead of stepping back and saying, This is a lie. … The real meaning of “I’m not like the other girls” is, I think, “I’m not the media’s image of what girls should be.” Well, very, very few of us are. Pop culture wants to tell us that we’re all shallow, backstabbing, appearance-obsessed shopaholics without a thought in our heads beyond cute boys and cuter handbags. It’s a lie – a flat-out lie – and we need to recognize it and say so instead of accepting that judgment as true for other girls, but not for you.

Excellent article. I always end up thinking this when I see reblogs like that. Female competition is a horrible, poisonous thing (that I’ve only recently gotten over engaging in, and I am much happier for it).
