Isla Delgado was born in Avalon to mortal parents, yet when they learned that their daughter could be one of the kids who could become immortal they dumped her as a baby on the shallows â the most barren and deserted sector of Avalon. The infected and toxic air wouldnât kill her, but not having anyone to look after her would. The shallows was an isolated and difficult place to survive in and it was only because of a group of rebels that Isla survived. They protected her and kept her hidden from Avalonâs assassinâs and guaranteed her a secure life, or as much of one as they could in times of rebellion.
As years went by Islaâs views on the rebellion and everything that had happened because of it changed. She was never forced to become a rebel, she had chosen to be one by default, yet that was something she regretted tremendously once she grew up. The young girl knew they stood and fought for a good cause â it gave everyone a chance to live freely and not under the despicable rule of Proteus â but she wanted nothing to do with them. If it wasnât for the fact that theyâd saved her life and kept her safe as she grew, she would have left the resistance. While sheâd decided to stay all of those years she never took part in any mission or special task that were given to some memberâs â she wasnât going to betray them but she wouldnât help them, either.
More time passed and this routine stayed the same. Isla would stay back at the rebel facilities watching over the place while everyone else went on big missions to stop âthe bad guysâ. Sheâd outgrown her childhood reasoningâs of staying put, instead focusing now on her one true purpose: her wife Florence. As she grew tired of the never ending battles and conflict, sheâd found solace in the other woman â whom sheâd later discover to be her bond companion. Unlike Isla, Florence always took part in missions and loved being a part of the rebellion. Because of this Isla knew her ideas of running away and leaving would never happen. The other woman was the only thing tying her to Avalon, keeping her in place. Devastation struck when Florence died on a mission, leaving Isla without her bond companion and every reason to leave â and thatâs what she did. She now despised everything that had to do with the rebellion and had been given the one final push to leave.
A few months prior to the war that would end Proteusâs reign, Isla fled to the only place she knew to run to: Eden. Yet she wasnât entirely sure what she would stumble across. A nation many had talked about? Or nothing? Luckily Eden was real and soon the place became the home she had always wanted. Settling into The Hive, she remained hidden for years obtaining information. Learning about the nation, making sure to know who was friend or foe. And this time? This time sheâll choose wisely who sheâll stand with.
Florence Branson: Florence was Islaâs first bond companion and the one she considered to be the most important one, this being because they were wives. They met and fell in love long before they found out they were bond companions. Decided to be together as long as they were allowed to because there was nothing else they wouldâve want to. And though both women were immortals - the type of life they were living was bound to get one of them either hurt badly or killedâŠ. Sadly their time together was not as long as they had expected. After years of managing to survive every little mission she had been given, Florence died on what would be the last mission for the rebellion before the war that would take Avalon down. After her wifeâs death, Isla soon left Avalon. After all she had only stayed back because of Florence and now she not only needed to leave because she had come to despise the rebellion - but because every place in the forsaken land, reminded her of what she lost and was not able to safe.
Proteus Babikov: Though he is the reason behind everything that happened back at her birth place - and the one to blame for every single mortal having access to the immortality serum, Isla has become very close to him. She has provided him with shelter ever since he escaped Avalon and came to Eden. And it goes far more than just him happening to be her second bond companion. Proteus has proved himself to be someone Isla can trust and also someone she can shares her plans and thoughts with - that also agrees with her. In the little time theyâve spent around each other, the man has turned out to be more of a father figure to her than any of the rebels she once shares a room with. And though Isla is willing to start a war once again - fight alongside Proteus - Isla would be also willing to betray him if the occasion called for it. He might be the closest thing she has to a friend or family; but she knows that it came down to anything, sheâd be willing to turn against him - after all, thatâs what he will do too. Or so she believes.
