Revoking Your Man Card || Brandon & Isobel
"Hey, it’s like I said earlier… you can’t change who you are. And if he needed you to change just so he could feel better, then fuck him. That ain’t love and that ain’t your fault either. What I said about you becomin’ a Stepford Wife was bullshit. I was wrong," Brandon replied. And he meant it.
There was more he could’ve said, more he wanted to say, but the sad smile on Isobel’s face stopped him. He wasn’t sure what felt worse for her - talking about her former master or being forced to be the third wheel in the apartment, seeing him and Georgie in her face all day.
He gave her a light shrug and tried to think of way to describe it to her. The jeweler had been very technical with his terms, but Brandon was really only good with the basics. “It’s, uh, square. Well, the diamond is. And then there’s smaller diamonds around that. The ring is, uh, silver. But just the color. It’s actually like, white gold, but it looks silver. And then there’s a couple diamonds goin’ down the side. I think I did pretty good for me pickin’ it out. It’s not huge, but it’ll still reflect light real good.”
Isobel shrugged, there was no point rehashing the past. Gabriel wasn't going to come back and there was a pretty good chance she'd end up some ugly old spinster with a hundred cats. She didn't want to keep blaming him for the shitty hand life kept dealing her. It wasn't Gabriel's fault and as much as she hated feeling like this there was no point despising a man who had done everything he could to make her happy.
That wasn't to say it didn't hurt seeing Georgie and Brandon happy, but that was part of being here. To remind herself that maybe things would get better, that one day she'd be lucky enough to be part of a family. Maybe this one and maybe another.
She listened as he described the ring in typical man fashion. Laughing as she shook her head. "Georgie would have been happy with one of those plastic rings you get in an arcade. She'll love it." Isobel assured him, offering him a smile as she pictured Georgie's reaction.

"It’s the least I could do. I know I’m probably a bit part o’ why you and Gabriel split. When me and you hooked up, I didn’t give a damn about the danger it was puttin’ you in, hookin’ up with someone who ain’t your Master. I didn’t give a damn about anyone but myself, just tryin’ to make myself feel better before I was bought," he said, sighing softly.
"And then, when I wound up drinkin’ with Josephine at your place, I was more worried about me and Athena than I was about you. And then, after all that, you still offered to pick me up from the streets. So.. I’m glad you came. Gives me a chance to make it up to you. And you really gotta be thankin’ Georgie… she’s the best."
Isobel looked away for a moment, shaking her head at the thought that Brandon was even a bit to blame for her relationship ending. "It wasn't your fault, it caused a rift between us sure but everything that piled up against us was all my fault. My refusal to let him free me, my complete freak out when I thought he knocked me up, I didn't want to change who I was or what I was and it was only a matter of time before I ran out of excuses."
She hated what had happened but she'd never blamed Brandon for her own failings. "Even when you and Josephine got drunk it wasn't even a big deal. He got it out of his system and I had thought things would be okay. That was why I offered you a place to stay until you got back on your feet."
The sadness she felt suddenly slipped away as she smiled sadly. "She is isn't she. So what's the ring look like?"
