When Bandwagons are Good.
There's been something the Lord has been showing me more and more, lately, contrasting against one of the most stereotypical beliefs amongst teenagers; myself is definitely included.
If an aspiring actor wishes to get noticed he must surround himself with people who are already within the industry. These people will teach him, keep him motivated, and support him through networking. The lie that most teenagers, and many adults, believe is that you can listen to music, watch television, and be a part of a group that contradicts your values, yet never budge in your thinking. The usual excuse is that it's "Just music." But that's not true, is it? It's "Just music" that tells you you're wrong on repeat. If an actor surrounds himself with people who do not share his same goals they may discourage him, distract him, or even cause him to change his interests. Whether or not those things happen, they are no good to him in his pursuit of success. This may not be the best metaphor, but I hope you get my point.
The purpose of this post is to highlight a virtue of success. If you need comfort, rest, healing, or acceptance, well, I'm just a Facebook post, but Christ has all those things. If you want to feel His comfort and acceptance, one aspect of drawing near to Him is pushing away what hinders you. I use to believe that music and television (both tools of high suggestibility) didn't affect me, but recently I've realized they do. What you meditate on becomes a part of your mind. What is it you want? Immorality and hatefulness? Much of our society is full of that. I've had to delete most of the music from my phone because it was suggesting to me to believe things I knew were wrong. Much of it made me anxious and paranoid but I wanted peace instead. Apparently, several gigs of negative music doesn't bring positive thinking; neither does 24 hours a day of negative news from Fox and CNN bring encouragement.
But if you want peace, comfort, and healing instead of the negative, as well as wisdom and knowledge, go to the Bible. Listen to wise men. Seek help and support, and practice what is good. You have to choose what you want because you can't have both. "You cannot serve two masters."
This is one reason Jesus wanted the Body of Christ (his followers) to act as one large group and to support one another. Living in America, we are told to fend for ourselves and to become "Self made successes." What most people do not realize is that there are no self made successes. They all had an extreme amount of support and assistance from others. Do you want to be an actor? Go to actors so they can help you. Want to be a musician? Go to musicians who can teach you. Want to have peace, acceptance, wisdom, healing? Follow Christ. But just a warning, it isn't easy and other will try to knock you off the path, so you need to surround yourself with people and things that will keep you on it.
God bless. Chad.

Comfortable Christians have never changed the world. If you ever want to see anything change, you’re going to have to get a little uncomfortable. If you know anything about the Presence, you know it’s out of your comfort zone. When you step over the line of your comfort, you step into the presence of Almighty Yahweh.

Yesterday my youth group and I got to go back to Woodlawn Apartments, an apartment complex we went to for a week over the summer to have a backyard bible study with some of the kids. It was so wonderful to see Nadia and Taidra again and have them remember me. Not to mention seeing Nadia having a strong walk with Jesus at such a young age and having become a Christian only five months ago really brightened my day.
I also became friends with Ava, Destiny, and Desire three super sweet girls. All these kids really brightened my day and always teach me what child like faith really looks like.
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 19:14
So thankful to spend my Saturday with precious children.
Good day!
I don't think the problem lies with society's new push to make confidence attractive. Confidence has always been attractive. The problem is what confidence means to some people. Too many people think that being confident means that you're suddenly going to be outgoing and full of yourself when in reality having confidence just means being comfortable in your own skin. Even if that skin is shy and closed to a lot of things.
Good point.Yeah, to be clear, I'm not saying anything against confidence itself. I'm pointing out that when we try to rid ourselves of unreasonable prejudices we often create new ones.
So, apparently the new way to become attractive is confidence. I'm sure the people who started this thought they were doing everyone a favor by taking the focus off of physical appearance, but this creates a whole new set of burdens. Now, all those unconfident boys and girls who believed they could reach "perfection" by assimilating to society's mass opinion on physical appearance, and this become confident, are being told that they must be confident for confidence sake in order to be attractive. I've personally felt the pressure of feeling so much less confident through trying to be confident. Fake it till you make it just doesn't work. I was only left more uncomfortable in myself than before. Our problem is that in our world where we can afford to forge our own paths of relationships, we have focused too much on what we, or others, have or don't have. True love has nothing to do with couples and it cannot be found at any given time. True love is a state of mind and being, loving unconditionally, everyone. Through this our relationships would not only be so much easier and understanding, but also without prejudice. "Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass, hardly anything else I need to be."
Making people’s days better, makes my day better.
