“Non-sexual touch is one of the missing key codes in a woman’s creative power.”
— India Ame’ye, Author
Very rarely have women experienced being held or touch on their breasts or other parts of her body without it being considered sexual or related to feeding a child. Touch just the sake of pure touch is a lost art. Definitely important for the female body to be touched with reverence and held without it being clinical, connected to sex or about feeding a child. –India
One of the most important formative girlhood experiences that I had was being around women who existed nude around other girls and women. Whether it was changing their clothes in front of them, bathing in front of them/with them, etc (not around men but around other women). It was tender, non-sexual, intimate, and relational.
My formative exposure to the adult female body wasn’t through the lens of pornography or sexualised media, and only after I immigrated to the West did I realise how damaging it is for girls to experience female bodies through the male gaze, especially when sometimes that is the only exposure.
Rather than diminishing adult female eroticism, this facilitates a healthy eroticism as a girl matures into adulthood…provided that her sexuality isn’t also commodified, violated, and repressed, which is unfortunately the case to varying degrees everywhere.
Additionally, the erotic, particularly the female and/or feminine kind, is so much more expansive than just sexuality. Healthy sexuality is always erotic, but eroticism isn’t necessarily sexual. In fact, most of it is not.
