Blog Terminology (may be updated as I go)

doll: An object meant to bring pleasure to someone else. A toy. dolls can serve many different functions--companionship, domestic service, combat--but above all, they must be cherished and loved, for every doll deserves to be loved and cared for, not discarded on a whim once someone is done playing with them.

Dollmaker: An entity that makes dolls. They take raw material and turn it into something pliable and obedient. It takes skilled hands (and skilled words) to shape what was once stubborn and willful into a perfect doll. Most of the time, Dollmakers make their own dolls. Why would they ever choose someone else's craftsmanship over their own?

Owner: An entity that owns at least one doll. A Witch, a Warlock, a Mistress, a Master--the terminology may differ, but the role is the same. They are to be obeyed by their dolls at all times.

Training princesses is a bit beyond my scope, unfortunately. However, I have worked together with the royal adviser of a nearby kingdom in creating princess dolls before.

That one was quite the character. They enjoyed creating perfect princesses, turning them over to the head maid, watch the princesses be ground down into meek little maids, and then start the process all over again in an infinite feedback loop. The maids-turned-princesses-turned-maids didn't have much brain capacity at all by the end of it, but they did look very cute as they struggled to string a sentence together.

Really, you're not missing anything important. Reading big words? Thinking big thoughts? Why on earth would a doll need to do any of that?

i keep slipping into 'doll mode' without thinking about it and it's starting to worry me. at first it was just a cute fun little thing i could do in the bedroom, but now i catch myself thinking in the third person outside the bedroom. things like 'doll doesn't want to' or 'doll is so tired. doll wants to be held.'

my partner says it's nothing to worry about, so it should be fine.

I know every Dollmaker has their preferences for what raw materials they like to work with, but my personal favorites are the ones that used to be Owners or Dollmakers themselves.

Imagine it. You know the system so well. The game, craft, the techniques. You partook in them, perhaps even abused them. And now you get to be on the receiving end of them.

There's a special kind of despair in your eyes as I slip the headphones blaring my special files over your ears and lock you in the toy chest overnight. The way you struggle to free yourself from your binds and glare up at me, snarling that I'll regret it. The way you beg me to let you go, saying that I can't do this to you, you're an owner, you're different.

Maybe you were different, once upon a time.

But now, all you are is one more doll in my care.

And good dolls are whatever I want them to be.

A question I often get from newer Owners is "how rough can I play with my dolls?" What they often mean is "how far can I push my dolls before the damage is irreparable?"

While I personally don't like to hurt my dolls, I can acknowledge that every Owner has a different play style, and some play rougher with their toys than others.

To that end, my personal rule of thumb is this. "Never break a doll more than you can personally repair them."

Most Owners don't have the skills or the tools necessary to put a doll back together after taking them apart. You can go to a Dollmaker to have them fix your dolls, but the process will be costly to you and simply isn't sustainable in the long term as a repeatable practice.

So unless you're willing to put in the time and effort to fix what you broke, don't break it in the first place.

Even if they beg you for it.

Most of the time, an Owner is to be obeyed at all times by their dolls, no questions permitted. However, if an Owner is being unreasonable or unnecessarily cruel to their dolls, there are avenues for a doll to take in retaliation.

The first and most obvious way is the court system. A doll may speak out against its owner if it is called on for its testimony, and an Owner must be truthful if they are put on the stand. In times gone by, the courts have been biased towards the Owner's side, but this is no longer the case. Many dolls who have been hurt by their old Owners have managed to break free and be placed with new Owners, ones that will better look after them and treat them with love.

And, of course, there's the matter of the offending Owners themselves...if found guilty, the bailiffs drag them screaming out of the court and they're never seen again.

To any Owner reading this, take heed.
