The corners of his lips curved up into a smile, agreeing with her with a nod. “It’s not as bad as it was back then.” Back then, women weren’t allowed to have a voice. Something Peggy went against several times, something he admired about her. But times have changed, thankfully. He puts his free hand over his heart, giving her a warm grin “You know me so well.” He laughs. “I think they’d all love to meet the founder of S.H.E.I.L.D. You already know Bucky though, he’s here.” And Steve was glad for it. “I’m not sure about everyone else though.” There was a lot of people here he has yet to comb through. “One of my last missions, I had to go back into time to get an infinity stone. I saw you at the headquarters. I knew you’d go on to do good things, but it was nice to see you were okay.” No matter how much he wanted to stay then, he knew he had to go back and help everyone.

“ just because time has passed doesn’t mean i lost any of my fire, “ there was a small period of time where the fire had been close to diminishing, it had taken her a long to remember how to live a life without steve in it. even though, he had only been in her life for such a small amount of time, he had made a significant impact to it. “ sixty six years ? that is a significant amount of time, “ taking another sip from her drink, “ i believe i would be right in saying probably as well as you did. everything is advanced and the clothing is a lot less moderate. a shop assistant tried to suggest i wear something called a mini skirt. i shut down that idea as soon as i saw the item of clothing. the food tastes a lot better. “

“Would you be Peggy Carter without it?” A lifted brow at the question they both knew the answer to. Eyes widen a fraction at her statement, silently agreeing with her. “It took awhile to recover.” Mentally, that is. The serum allowed him to recover effortlessly. “But it wasn’t long before I was back to doing what I do best.” Steve took another drink to stop himself from trying to picture Peggy in a mini skirt - obviously failing at it but soon shaking the image away. “It takes awhile to get used to everything, but I had some good people to help me figure it out. The clothing nowadays is definitely more risque than back then.” He laughs softly. “I’m sure you’ll have everything figured out in no time."

the brunette woman levelled the male a look at his words. she looked like a sight for sore eyes ? “ i wasn’t the one who crashed his plane into the ice and is now all of a sudden unfrozen so i could say the same thing to you, rogers, “ peggy countered with a slight shake of her head, “ i have a million questions and i hope you know that i am going to want all the answers to them. how did you get out ? who got you out ? when did you get out ? “

Hands raised in mock surrender, “Yeah it wasn’t really what I planned to say either.” It was just the first thing that he could say. Steve moved to take the seat next to her, ordering himself another drink before answering her rapid fire questions. “I don’t expect any less.” He chuckles. “S.H.E.I.L.D found me sixty-six years after I went into the ice.” He nods his thanks to the bartender before taking a long sip, looking over to her again. “Coming back was... strange.” He nods at the understatement, “How are you coping with it all?”

peggy had been trying to get use to the whole different time thing; something she never thought she would have to deal with. one minute she was being told that she was going to be running shield and then the next, she was decades into the future. wrapping her ruby lips around the bottle of her beer, she took a long sip, having had decided tonight was the night for her to try and embrace her new situation. what she hadn’t accounted for was him. steve. blinking in surprise, dark hues moved from the bartender to the male standing beside her, “ steve ? is that you ? “ 

Steve has never heard a voice that sobered him up until now, breath catching in his throat as the daze in his eyes cleared. There she was, ruby red lips and all. The drunken part of him wondered if this was how it was going to be, a small taste of what could be then some big thing happening here in Oakley Lake that takes that all away. The sober part of him has yet to speak, taking in the woman he had tried to get back to. “You’re a sight for sore eyes.”

mimmi might’ve have been around landpeople for a few years, but she still didn’t understand all their things. it was all much different than what she had growing up with the mako pod. “my bad. i didn’t exactly know what this thing is and i just thought since i found it here it was yours.” the mermaid stated to steve. “i could definitely have a drink though.”

“This is a trumpet.” He couldn’t, and wouldn’t judge the girl for not knowing what it was. “One of the many musical instruments out there. But not mine, I am not musically talented.” He laughs. With a smile, Steve orders another one of his favorite drinks before looking back to her, “What would you like?”

nancy had a notepad on her and walked over to a person. “so i’m starting a column in the town paper highlighting a different resident of oakley lake every week. i was wondering if you would be okay with me interviewing you for it.” nancy was finally given her own column from the people, sure it might’ve not been exactly what she wanted, but she could finally be a writer in the paper, not write other’s articles that they put their names on her work.

Was Steve still the person who sat drinking their coffee in the morning reading the paper? Yes. He’s ventured out to other news outlets, like social media and all of that but he still read the paper too. “That sounds interesting.” He states before giving the girl a small nod, “Sure, I’ll answer some questions.”

“No, hey!” How the other mistook Steve for a trumpet player was beyond him, and he was not going to put anyone through that enough to even try. The male is fast on his feet to give the instrument back, head spinning with the amount he’s had to drink tonight. “This isn’t my thing.” He speaks over the music, giving the instrument back. “I’m better with my hands.” And by that, he meant sketching but he knows how it sounded. “I need another drink.” He really didn’t, but he made a mental promise that this would be the last of the night. “Do you want a drink?” He looks to his side at the other.

sam spent a lot more time at storm that he would ever really admit. sometimes he was just there for a drink. other times, the people sitting next to him would leave with a few less dollars in their pockets. once a thief, always a thief. “how about a round?” sam turned to the person sitting next to him with what was supposed to be a cheerful smile plastered on his face.

Giving the bartender the money to close out his tab, Steve went to turn on his heel to head out until someone grabbed his attention. A small internal battle flitted through his head before he moves back to the counter, “Yeah sure.” He gave the other a smile, “One more drink wouldn’t kill me tonight.”

   ❛  oh  . . okay.  ❜  reluctant response. she’s careful to not upset the other but is grateful either way to not have to go through another possible bad scenario. still, idle eyes watch the various booths behind him. they linger on mentioned stuffed animals until they turn back to steve, bright smile plastered across her face.  ❛  do you think you can still try to win me one of those ?  ❜  hand raises to point specifically at one. a soft pink bunny, definitely her style.  ❛  i’ll pay for it, of course. just don’t think i’d have very much luck by myself.  ❜ 

Steve tilts his head to the side only slightly, looking to the other before cracking a smile sensing her reluctance. “I mostly come for the games and food anyways.” He may have a stronger stomach now, no he knew he had a stronger stomach now, but even then he’d rather just avoid it altogether. Following the direction she pointed in, Steve was met with a pink bunny. A laugh escaping his lips as she mentions she can pay for it. “No it’s okay. Keep your money.” It wasn’t like he was low on funds, not to mention Steve was old fashioned -- it’d be a fight with himself to let her pay. Handing the concessionaire some money, he was exchanged with five of the balls to knock down the pins. “I can easily do it, but you know these are rigged right?” Not that the pins would be able to stand with his enhanced strength.

   ❛  is it . .  ❜  the words get stuck in her throat. lips pursed tightly, downcast eyes look at the floor in front of her as if it were the most interesting thing. she was conflicted. growing up she had always been told to stray away from such places. something about it being not lady like. how the atmosphere was one she didn’t need to partake in. still, her friends dragged her along. while they all huddled into the building, she found herself standing outside hesitantly.  ❛  it’s okay for me to go in there, right ?  ❜  she asks the person next to her, pointing to the bar before them. wide eyes waiting for their response before making a move. 

Steve didn’t make it a habit to come to the bar everyday after work, but on days like this; where the day just drags on and on, he’d find himself sat in a bar stool taking the days edge off. Kicking down the kickstand to his motorcycle, the male grabbed the key and made his way into the bar. He only stopped at the small voice to his left, “You don’t have to if you don’t want to.” She looked hesitant, and that alone made Steve linger outside the doors just a bit to make sure she was okay. “It’s not everyone’s scene, but it should be safe in there if that’s what you’re asking.”

lily still didn’t understand the purpose of this place. last thing she remembered before coming here was sacrificing herself for harry. then she woke up here, but this wasn’t an afterlife or anything since there were people here who were very much alive back where they came from. lily was in the library searching through so many books. “how can there not be a book on the history or founding of this town?” she asked the person next to her.

Pulling another book from the shelf, Steve turned it over to read the back as a chuckle vibrates his chest. “You know, I have no idea.” He’s wondered about this town himself, how he’s never heard of it until all the sudden he’s here. “Maybe the town doesn’t want people to know about it.” It wasn’t totally far fetched, not given their current predicament.

“Neither do I.” Steve’s memories take him back to the time Bucky had him go on the cyclone, something Steve instantly regretted when he lost the contents of his stomach. Since then, Steve hasn’t really gone to any amusement parks. And it wasn’t like he ever had the time either, there was always some big fight to tend to. “We can skip the rides if you’d like.” He wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

Steve is canon all the way up to returning the stones.

He already knew in the back of his mind that he planned to stay in the past to live a life he didn’t get to, however when Steve gave his goodbyes to his friends and went back into time, he was able to return the stones but not stay where he wanted to.

Steve then ended up in Oakley Lake.

He was frustrated that once again, he was robbed of a life he wanted to live out with Peggy.

But soon after, Steve accepted that it just wasn’t meant to work out with her and moved on.

Steve couldn’t see himself working somewhere where he wasn’t doing the right thing by the people. So he became security for City Hall.

Steve is still very much his noble, old fashioned self. But he’s relaxed a little bit more.

He allows himself to have fun, enjoying company of others, going out for drinks, etc etc.

He couldn’t see himself without a motorcycle, so once he was settled into Oakley Lake he went out and got himself one.

Steve also adopted a dog, naming him Lucky.
