Naruto Fanfic Writers!!

Is there still an Itachi / OC fanbase community, and what are the best platforms to read fics??? I’m old and would like to catch up with you all in the latest online fanfiction trends

Writing Itachi is hard. 

ASDFGHJKL I realize people have different interpretations of Itachi.

In the Akatsuki-Verse he has a facade to maintain. He’s really not going to relax enough to be himself like he was with Shisui. He’s not going to speak freely when there’s some semblance of discomfort. Maybe with some development in a longer story he would – but this is not that story.

I feel like in this time of his life he only speaks when it’s relevant. Everything else just slips through as a subtle facial expression.

In this story he’s at the point where he trusts Kisame not to murder him in his sleep. Kisame can get away with a little joke now and then at Itachi’s expense with only a raised eyebrow in reply. Maybe the tiniest of smirks. But Itachi is not going to jest along at this point in time.

Itachi…why u gotta so difficult.

Akatsuki Itachi isn't too hard once you realize we haven't actually seen him interact with the Akatsuki except for like 3 tiny scenes, and with Kisame, maybe like 5? You can count on your hand the scenes probably. Obviously he isn't the most talkative person, but you don't have to base everything about him in your story on these scenes.

Think about his battles. He talks when he doesn't need to. He explains to Kakashi his Tsukuyomi. He often compliments his opponents. (Gai, Kurenai, Jiraya) Refer back to his fight in Konoha with Kurenai, Asuma, and Gai, and the fight during the kidnapping of Gaara. And even though it's Sasuke, you can still pick up queues from his vocabulary in their fights since he's still acting "evil." He could sometimes go on short tangents about hatred to others or some shit to seem more evil.

I can see him taking the initiative when dealing with non-akatsuki folks. Especially with Kisame being an intimidating guy. Again, explanations and compliments. Maybe he'd even put his two cents in if he thinks someone has a bad idea that will affect him. Criticism is something I feel like he's good at.

He also asks questions to Naruto, although again they're about Sasuke. We haven't necessarily seen him in a situation with the Akatsuki where he needs to ask question. He was a very curious child. I pick him out to be someone who asks a lot of questions when he's curious about an interesting jutsu or something. There's nothing in the story to indicate he doesn't ask questions when he needs to.

Also recall Kisame's first interaction with Itachi. I'm not sure if this is legit cannon from manga bc it's been so long since I read it. Anyway, he makes a point to explain his opinion on death and comrades to Kisame. He could have easily just ignored Kisame's statement, but he didn't. He responded to it with an opinion. He has enough control over his vocabulary and body language to express an opinion without hinting to his true identity, which I think you mention you were worried about.

And don't be afraid of throwing in his thoughts. Idk what your perspective is. If it's third person, revealing a bit of his thoughts isn't a crime. Like, "His expression seemed to criticize his partner, but his partner didn't notice."

I have no idea what your story is, but hopefully that helped a little. Maybe it didn't at all? Idk. Either I just find him easy to write about or I totally misunderstand his character. 🙄 I'm also really bad at third person so don't take this to heart! 😑
