Quantified Image

So for this exercise I wanted to visualise my tracks by using the splatter brush effect in Photoshop because I love painting that have splattering paint. Splattering paint is the process of creating art by splattering rather than painting. So using the tracker in my iphone 6, I wanted to track the amount of stairs I’ve walked in the last 9 days. A flight of stairs are the steps used to reach the floor. In this image, every splatter represents the amount of filghts I’ve climbed to reached a floor. In other words the amount of steps I’ve used to get to a particular floor. So the tiniest splatter is 100 (1 step to get to a floor). If you read the table it should become obvious as to what each splatter represents. Every size of splatter is done in 100s so that the viewer could perceive the splattering.

We chose to represent the branding of a Mexican restaurant.

From our in class activity we worked on branding. Our feedback is why black and white? For future direction we should use bright vibrant colour’s so the person becomes the brand. Change to: Yellow, red and green.

In- class Exercise for Bodily Images

This is probably the only exercise I participated in for Wk4. From this I learnt that branding yourself is allowing people to become aware of the practice they encounter. Branding is an exercise of people establishing their image or profession as shown in this picture. However this image could also relate to the “poor image” exercise. With the critique we were given we were asked about our use of color. If you were in a position of virtually expressing the brand of a famous organisation, you would want to use vibrant colors that will capture their type of audiences attention. Therefore, this is a perfect example of both bodily images and poor images.

Bodily Images

I believe most people represent themselves through social media. They allow other randoms to compare themselves to each other on social media. Sometimes the social media has its effects on a person. For example, are you really who you portray on social media? In point of fact, our society are illustrating their ideal selves, for instance research suggests that there is your “real self”- the actual “you” and then theirs your “ideal self”- depicting what you should be. These are all influenced by the social media. As this evolves, the idea of branding your “real self” or “ideal self” will prevail. It also becomes competitive with the amount of likes you get or the amount of friends or followers you have.

For the “non Images” exercise I wanted to portray the idea of identity. Come on let’s be blunt and honest, where would we be if Jesus had not died for us, if God had not sacrificed his only son for us. Without Jesus, we would be toasted, we wouldn’t even exist in this world if it hadn’t been for Jesus. I feel like we have a sense of identity because he believed in us and in return (well for some) having a relationship with our God gives us sinners purpose on this earth.

Experimental Imagery

I’m sure it is evident that I had not done any exercises for this paper but only because I felt like I’ve wasted enough time missing out on 2-3 wks because I kept changing my paper. So today I hope they take the work I am blogging now into consideration so that I could atleast utilise my skills and hopefully make up for what I’ve missed out on. With the help of my mates I was able to grasp onto some ideas for what was acquired of this paper. So far, I’m trying my best to finish this ASAP. I am aware that I’m submitting this late, but it’s worth the shot to present something. Today, I’ve realised that I’m the only one to blame for this mess, and for that I am paying the price of stressing out and failing to pass this paper.

So far, I’ve learnt that Experimental Imagery is considering new forms of image production. Experimental Imagery allows the photographer to utilise techniques that are uncommon with the “usaual” photography. Experimental Imagery- Non Images

I chose to present my shadow as a non image because it replicates the objects body or in this case my body- Ugh. Where there is light, the shadow will always form an image connected to our feet. Though I feel that with our shadow, it represents light and darkness. You would find that we perceive the world by accumulating the light but if there is no light we envision the world as a dark place. I’m sure this is less evident than it seems.

CONTEXTUAL STATEMENT STUDIO 2

So this is the final outcome of my Animation. I had trouble doing this because I didn't know how to make it slow so I exported it to be a GIF. This wasn't what I planned to have accomplished. With limited time and procrastination, I was disappointed with the end result. However, my intentions were to atleast present something that related to animation.

The idea behind this studio project was to have a flower project the cycle of everybody growing up to a world of dominance in the way we live. I also wanted to relate it to a set of images I made last semester- the irony and coincidence. In doing these I had to think of what I was able to do and not able to do. So throughout the weeks, I had to know my restrictions. Therefore, my goal was to atleast do an animation that (i thought) was easy, take place in one location and be atleast 10-30 seconds which I know is not challenging. Sometimes you just have to know your limits when you come across something that could beneficially destroy your ability to pass.

Although you might think this is a GIF it actually isn’t. Having trouble converting it to a published video I was forced by my inability to export this into a GIF. However doing some research, I read that a GIF (Graphics interchange format) is also a animation. Its an animation where you combine a bunch of images into a single GIF file. However, a graphic interchange format is nothing compared to a high level of control or flexibility of other animation formats but it has become quite popular because it is supported by other web browsers.

With no in animation, I’d like to think I did pretty alright. Although if I hadn’t lacked in time I think I would’ve done more to develop and progress in this studio project. In the future, I’d like to develop more skills in animating and probably, no definitely work on managing my time.

Semester 2

This semester has been very daunting and hard. I felt out of place and was going through a tiring phase. I felt like the timing of everything just affected my education and ability to do s want to exceedd tuff. A lot has been going on back at home and i feel it has taken a toll on me and my education. Evidently, this is the first time I have blogged since last semester. Truth is we were going through a financial crisis- had no internet. But again this tiring phase got the better of me. I realised too late that I did not take advantage of the services we have at AUT and I was too stubborn to seek advice or help from my lectures. This semester is like every other semester but worst. I realised that my time management is so poor, being organised is tiring. From this I have learnt that it’s important to not let these things affect you because you can bypass it and you’re not the only one who goes through these situations. Till this day I want to exceed and utilize these skills to have a better outcome, hopefully next year.
