Alright, I don’t have much knowledge on legal stuff in other countries, but here’s what I think should help in this case.

In this kind of situation, don’t joke, don’t be sarcastic, don’t be ironic. If this happens to you, even if you think they’re joking, clearly state that this is your baby and tell the person that if they don’t leave you alone, you’ll call the police. And if they really persist to the point where you’re uncomfortable, do call the police (dialing the number might be enough to get them to stop).

If you see them start calling the police, I think also calling the police would help? And tell them someone is harassing you and your baby, and that you feel threathened.

Also, while you shouldn’t have to do that, maybe keep something on you that could proove this is indeed your baby, in case the police shows up. That’s not something you show to the person to get them to leave you alone (that’s none of their buisness), that’s something you show to the police if they get involved.

If someone can back me up on this, or maybe give better legal advices please do.

I also want to say please keep in mind that, while this has probably happened in real life, not all white people are like that.

Hell, in this scenario, the white lady wasn’t necessarily the bad guy. While she didn’t get the obvious social cues, she genuinely thought this baby might have been stolen. She thought she was doing a good thing, and that might have blinded her.

Have you never been wrong? Or very wrong in this case? Have you never been so convinced you were right you completely brushed away any sign that things might not be the way you thought?

In this case, the white lady was wrong. She jumped to conclusions, and she could have put the black lady in serious trouble or even in danger. I’m pretty sure she also broke a few laws, like following someone to their car, and trying to grab their baby.

But you can’t make her out to be the devil. Because then you’re no better than her.

Not all white people are like that. We’re not. I’d even dare to say most of us aren’t like that. It’s just that you don’t hear about it.

You ever read a headline that says “white woman minds her own buisness like she should” or “white man hires employees based on their skills and nothing else”?

Yeah, me neither.

Because right now, even though it’s still really shitty, we live in a world where this is normal. So if you ever feel like racism will never end, think about this.

That’s what I do.

Since a lot of people are enjoying thrashing me for that post, I'm bringing it back.

So for those who have a hard time handling long texts and for those who are open-minded, here's a summary...

I gave advices I think were pretty good on how to protect yourself in this situation and called for people to add more (that part a lot of people decided to ignore).

I insisted on the fact that the white lady was wrong, borderline dangerous (ignored too).

I then "defended" her by reminding everyone that (assuming this situation was real) she is still a human (which people didn't like).

I then went on to say that putting "white people" in the same box isn't better than putting "black people" in the same box (which people liked even less).

And finally I went on with something a bit hopeful to hold on to while you fight against racism.

Let me ask you all a question...

Would you rather enjoy hating on white people in the present, or would you rather try for a future where racism doesn't exist anymore?

When it comes to me, between being an onlooker and risking nothing, or speaking up and risking the backlash, I'd rather pick the option that goes towards a peaceful future. Even if it's just a possibility, even if I'm not there to live it.
