"Who are Geary and Guilly?"
Most people might have made up their minds and labeled them as merely radicals who protest on the streets with placards in their hands. But thank God for people who dare ask who they are.
They are young, bright student-leaders from UP, mga Iskolar ng Bayan, who could have pursued great careers after college. Who could have been just like most young pros, enjoying the corporate life, chasing dream after dream. Instead, in exchange of the good things they could have attained, they have taken the path less travelled and have become Iskolar PARA SA Bayan this time around (as Guilly himself puts it). What they were up to recently? They were organizing and supporting a group of farmers in Nueva Ecija whose land will be affected by an expressway construction. And while having a meeting with residents last Saturday, August 9, they were abducted by armed men, now held prisoners, charged with false cases, forced to confess they are rebels. You see, they who showed what "Serving the People" truly is, they are the ones who suffer this injustice.
"Who are Geary and Guilly?" What I just told you might not even be half of who they are. They are so much more than these, that our personal accomplishments combined might not even be at par what they have done for the country.
Our ultimate wish is freedom for these youngsters. But until then, maybe it is us who should ask ourselves the same question... WHO ARE WE?
We may not have discovered fully yet, we may come from different backgrounds, we may not be as selfless and as brave, but for the time being, in our own little ways, directly or indirectly, can we just be... The people who can help Geary and Guilly?
