Hello everyone! Apologies for my lack of activity, uni work's been getting the better of me. I'm getting started on threads and replies right away!
Egoâs a bit bruised, but Iâm sure Iâll survive.
Well now that I know youâll survive, Iâm more than curious. Iâm Anna, by the way, and it sounds like youâve been having a bit too much fun. Iâm almost jealous.
James, but everyone calls me Bucky. And I don't know whether I'd use the word "fun" so there's no need for jealously.
A Little Friendly Competition [Bucky/Eleven]
Bucky hadnât noticed that his peace had been disturbed. He was far too engrossed in what he was doing. It wasnât until a small bird made its presence known that he stopped what he was doing, and even then his suspicions were only aroused when his twigs started sparking. That definitely wasnât him. With a mixture of confusion, annoyance and embarrassment he looked over his shoulder and found a grinning Gryffindor. GreatâŠhow long had he been watching him? Bucky had specifically gone down there because no one else would be around. His plan was ruined, and now he couldnât practice because the intruder was interrupting him. Still, the twig thing was quite impressive.
He turned round, still holding his wand and arms folded against his chest. Inclining his head towards the now burnt twigs he asked, âWas that you?â The answer was probably obvious but he asked anyway. Luckily, he was managed not to look embarrassed, but there was still a hint of annoyance about him. He couldnât practice if he wasnât alone. âHow long have you been here?â
Eleven avoided the first question, knowing that the answer was obvious, though he continued to smirk a bit. âLong enough to know what a Fifth year should know trickier spells than that. Or was that just a warm up? I could help you if you need to take a step up.âÂ
The canary that had previously flown from the tip of his wand now fluttered back to the Gryffindor, landing in his hair. With a squawk, Eleven swatted his hands at the bird - his hair would be ruined! As soon as the bird flew off with an indignant chirp, Eleven fiddle with his hair for a small moment before being content.Â
Bucky found himself rolling his eyes at his new companion's answer. Of course he could do better than that, well, he knew how to he just wasn't one hundred per cent about the execution. He wasn't sure whether the offer of help was sincere or not, but he'd come all the way out here to practice alone, not to admit that he wasn't as skilled as he'd like to be.
He watched on as the bird flew around and had to stifle a laugh at where it landed. "You can show me something worth seeing?" Bucky asked, eyebrows slightly raised and an expectant look on his face.
But you have blood on your knees. Nobody goes ânowhereâ and gets blood on their kneesâŠ
So I maybe slightly understated what I was doing. Itâs fine; no one died.
Iâd hope youâd be a bit more upset if someone had died. Iâm just concerned when anyone has blood on them at all - are you alright? What were you doing? Can I help?

The Right Direction [Open]
James Barnes, or rather Bucky as he preferred to be called, was not in the best of moods. It was late, he was drunk and for some reason he thought singing synth pop would brighten his mood. His mother had loved it, hence why he had an extensive collection but at Hogwarts he couldn't exactly stick some on and sing his blues away. As much as he loved the school and appreciated everything it had taught him, he did miss the everyday muggle life that he had been brought up with. He missed technology and television and music and all those other things wizards didn't get along with.
He stumbled along one of the corridors - certain, in his inebriated state - that he was heading towards the Slytherin common room - humming to himself. It was lucky that no one else was around. He wouldn't want anyone else to hear him, as much as he missed his home and his life before Hogwarts, he didn't want anyone to know that he was anything other than absolutely alright and not upset in any way. Back at the orphanage he had learnt to keep emotions to himself, but firewhisky wasn't the best cure for that.
His head - although not throbbing - was definitely doing something which was a sign that he had too much to drink and would probably regret it the next day and thank god he didn't have any lessons the next morning but at the moment he was more concerned with his bed, and sleep. Sleep was good. Of course, the only problem was that the staircases had a habit of moving and he wasn't one hundred per cent sure he was moving in the right direction.
Bucky, although he would never admit it to anyone, was rather aware that charms was not his best subject. He should probably speak to his professor about it but that would involve other people knowing and that wasnât something he wanted. Instead, heâd gotten into the habit of going out into the grounds of Hogwarts in search of somewhere quiet to practice. He liked to think that he was getting better, and after each practice he would be able to waltz into his next class and amaze everyone with his skill. It never worked, but he was nothing if not determined. The frustrating thing - aside from not being all that good - was that he understood perfectly the theory and logic behind it. If everything was theoretical he would probably be the top student, well, in his mind anyway. It was just actually doing it.He consoled himself with the fact that those better than him had had advantages that he hadnât. Although he was a pureblood, he hadnât been aware so he hadnât grown up with magic. That must be why he wasnât already better than everyone else.
With a heavy sigh, he kicked a few stones out of his way as he headed around the back of the quidditch pitch. It was usually quiet, and even if there was any practice going on everyone concerned would be far too preoccupied to notice him.
Right, he thought to himself and pulled out his textbook from his satchel. He licked his thumb and forefinger before flipping through the pages until he found the particular charm he was going to work on. With a brief look around to make sure that there was no one in sight, he pulled out his wand in preparation. It was a small tradition that before he started the ones he wasnât quite so good at, he had a go at something he knew he could do - a little confidence boost before the main event.
Satisfied that no one was watching, he flicked his wand, causing a handful of rocks and twigs to levitate above him. That was the easy part, or rather the easier part. He let them hang there for a few moments, slightly distracted by the way they seemed to dance in the breeze before inhaling a deep breath and allowing them to drop. They did not, however, drop. Bucky had caught them, one by one, with a few well aimed stupefying charms a few inches above the ground. A smirk found its way across his features. He could be impressive when he wanted.
Eleven was no stranger to the quidditch pitch - his girlfriend was the captain of the Slytherin team, so he was often at the games to cheer her on like the loyal boyfriend he was, and now that his brother was on the Ravenclaw team, as well as Jack Harkness, the Gryffindor had a feeling that he was going to be spending a lot more time near this area of the grounds.
Despite all of the flying that was going on with his family and friends, the boy still wasnât going to let it slip that he had absolutely not a single clue how to fly a broom - it always felt wrong, like the broom itself didnât want him to be there, and Eleven could never get a broom to respond to him. So, Occasionally, he would head out to the pitch, hoping to find a spot where he could try to fumble through the problem - he kept thinking that if he just did something slightly different, then everything would pop into place. Thatâs how it was with a lot of the TARDISâ wiring systems. It all came naturally to him.
When he rounded the corner of the pitch, however, it seemed that someone had already beat him to it, and in order to cover himself and make sure that no one could mention seeing him with a broomstick, he tossed the poor thing (and rather roughly, too) into one of the outer corridors of the pitch, pretending he had never seen the broom in his life. Instead, he plastered himself to the wall to watch the boy - Slytherin boy - work on a simple little charm.
Things hadnât been going so well for Eleven for the past year, and as he watched the boy with the simple charm, he had the sudden urge to show off. Or perhaps that urge was always there - he could never tell. The rocks and twigs levitated for a bit, and then, like some sort of magical game of jacks, the Slytherin let them fall and then stopped them right before they could hit the ground.
Grinning, Eleven couldnât help himself. With a sharp flick of his wand, a small bird flew from the tip of his wand, and he sent it whizzing through the little hovering pile of sticks, which scattered up into the air. One by one, like a cowboy from the American films, Eleven pointed his wand and flicked his wrist, and each of the twigs sizzled and snapped into sparks.Â
