To whom it may concern,
I couldn't figure out a good pose for Torix to get the shorts on him. So I gave Morzan cute leg(?)-warmers instead.
@tonhalszendvics , @rozequartz34 , @lordmorzan
Others do joke drawings as sketches. I just like painting digitally too much.
Extremely important question
Does Eragon do his own housework or does he have people for that? Bc laundry day back then was NO joke.
Paolini wants to make IC one of those super serious and cold fantasy series so bad. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, CP, but Morzan did have silly conversations with his kid, Galbatorix was awkward or embarrassing at times, Eragon was cruel when necessary, Murtagh was kinda cheesy, etc. it's okay buddy it doesn't have to be LOTR to be amazing
Eragon Death AU: Remember the Fall AU in which Eragon dies?
Murtagh and Eragon are placed into the care of Brom after Selena passes from illness and Morzan conveniently disappears. The two are completely inseparable, with Murtagh often throwing massive tantrums if Brom so much as tried to move the boy into a different bed than his brother's.
Absolutely traumatized by his father being a deadbeat and his mother withering away before him, Murtagh is extremely protective of his little brother. One of the last "missions" his mother gave him was to protect Eragon, and a true soldier follows orders until released. Brom is an... okay father. He's still pretty brash and inexperienced, and has no clue how to raise codependent brothers with attachment issues, separation anxiety, and trauma. Yikes.
Murtagh even refuses to consider the possibility of becoming a rider before his brother, as that'd mean they'd be separated. And when they do become riders, practically at the same time, they're always running off to train or spy around together.
It makes losing Eragon in a fight against the forsworn hit Murtagh in ways he can't even comprehend. His little brother, the one person he was meant to protect forever, the only human who had ever truly cared for him—dead at his feet. Murtagh can't bring himself to scrub the blood off his hands until hours later.
Maybe I just forgot, but: Do urgals have beards? I feel like there was never one described with one... or my brain simply deleted that.
@glbtrx asked for a drawing of Jarnunvösk's and Morzan's dragon's kid. And here they are :3
I combined some traits that I gave the two in drawings I made of them for the Jarnunvösk lives AU. Since canon implies with Saphira being blue while her mother is red, that dragons likely inherit the color of one parent - with perhaps a variation -, I gave the kiddo Jarnunvösk's purple. Buuuuut I pushed it more towards red on the color wheel :3
@tonhalszendvics asked for Carn for the IC dragon AU :3 Hope you like!
He didn't have much description besides looking kinda ragged and like he didn't eat enough, plus him being not the strongest mage. Aaaand I didn't draw much of the body - because wings yey - so I decided to forgo some thinness stuff and put some tears in his webbing instead :P And I decided for blue for him, but I didn't want to use something close to Brom's or Eragon's. Sooo; greenish tint.
Some Inheritance characters explorationssss! these are all from book 1 so I can get them out of the way and proceed to draw the OP version of them from now on lmfaoooo
anyways we got all time fav Eragon (if you hate him you will die and go to hell etc. etc.), Arya, pre-lobotomy Murtagh and a quick portrait of Brom. I'm gonna be honest guys I really am not a long haired brom truther but I had to bend my will for book accuracy i guess (bc i won't do it for other things. for example i refuse to believe Eragon becomes pale like a ghost #sorry #notmyeragon)
i'll do more (like saphira nasuada orik and even roran i know shocking) because i really want to get these people out of my head and draw them with my adult skills (which are very poor but definitely better than 12 year old skills) sooo stay tuned IF YOU EVEN CARE.
Inheritance nation WE ARE MOVING
Saphira Brightscales the GOAT
I love these books so much that I even got out of my comfort zone and started drawing DRAGONS. they are so hard oh my god but anything for my girl Saphira, quite literally the best character argue with the wall!!! (just kidding)
Anyways I pretty much imagine the dragons of Alagaësia how they are depicted in the book covers and not like the classic movies/television dragons... I really love how expressive each of the five dragons is and how elegant they look (kind horse-like too??), so I tried to replicate that rendition with my own style hope you like it :)

For the ship asks (I decided to simply ask multiple pairings xD): 45 for Murtagh/Orrin, 16 for Morzatorix (def in regards to a happier AU I guess), 14 for Murtagh/Anath
45, Murtagh/Orrin: I like to think they're both able to let their walls down when they're with each other and just relax, Murtagh from his duties as a Rider, and Orrin with his as King of Surda. Compared to with other people, they're really just able to be themselves together. That and Orrin is WAY more openly nerdy about his interests. Very much yapper/listener dynamic when together
16, Morzatorix: oh defo for a happier AU. I think they're still quite the controversial couple (even in an AU where Nothing Goes Bad). People either think they're absolutely perfect for each other or the complete opposite. At any kind of event, people always go "Oh it's them". And yk what, Torix and Morzan absolutely milk it for everything it's worth. They are The coordinated couple. Best dressed matching outfits 24/7
14, Murtagh/ Anath: OH I've been waiting to yap about this so here goes >:) Both of them have sacrificed things by being together, but primarily Anath. Anath was already largely disliked by the elves of Ellesméra and the Academy following his "exorcism" and was on a little bit of redemption arc. While he was slowly being accepted by the elves at Arngor Academy, his relationship with Murtagh ultimately sent that to shambles (I still hc that the Elves do Not like Murtagh very much at all, even after his role as the herald of the threat the Draumar posed to Alagaësia) and left him quite isolated once again.
What if Morzan was alive and Murtagh still ran away when he turned 18, then he met Eragon and eventually he fell in love with that wonderful boy.
How would Morzan react when Twins capture Murtagh and return him to Urû'baen? and well adding the fact that Twins will also reveal that Morzan has another "son" that Selena managed to hide from him and now his son is kinda trying to destroy the Empire
If Morzan were still alive when the Twins captured Murtagh and returned him to Urû’baen, the outcome would be horrific for Murtagh on both a physical and psychological level. Morzan was repeatedly described as a brutal and deeply possessive man, and Murtagh’s decision to flee at eighteen would be viewed as a betrayal and theft of Morzan’s "rightful" property.
Their relationship was already rooted in violence. Morzan famously threw Zar’roc at Murtagh when he was only three years old, leaving the massive scar on his back. Murtagh running away would humiliate Morzan publicly, especially because Morzan was Galbatorix’s “finest servant.” A runaway son would make him appear weak, incapable of controlling even his own household.
The moment Murtagh was dragged back to Urû’baen, Morzan would almost certainly punish him severely, both to reassert control and to erase the shame attached to Murtagh’s rebellion. In a feudal/medieval mindset, children were considered subordinate to their parents, and loyalty to one’s house was everything. To Morzan, Murtagh’s escape would not simply be disobedience, but treason against their family and house itself.
The Twins revealing the existence of a second hidden son would strike Morzan even harder than Murtagh’s escape.
Selena successfully hiding a pregnancy from him would be an unforgivable humiliation. Morzan delighted in tormenting and controlling Selena precisely because he believed she could never truly defy him. Learning that she concealed a child in Carvahall for years, and that this child became a Dragon Rider actively fighting the Empire, would be the ultimate proof that she defied and outmaneuvered him.
And because Morzan would not know Brom was Eragon’s true father, he would absolutely believe Eragon was biologically his son.
That realization would likely create a mixture of fury, possessiveness, and ambition. Morzan would likely see Eragon as a stolen heir, a princeling who should have been raised in Urû’baen serving their house, not “grubbing in the dirt” in a remote village while being manipulated by the Varden. He would blame Selena for “stealing” his son from him and would resent everyone who turned Eragon against the Empire. He might even raze Carvahall to the ground for taking in Selena and hiding Eragon from him.
But Eragon’s greatest value to Morzan would be Saphira.
As the only known female dragon alive, Saphira represents the future of the Riders. Morzan would immediately understand the political and dynastic implications of controlling her. If Thorn and Saphira were both tied to his bloodline through Murtagh and Eragon, then Morzan's house would effectively possess the only breeding future for dragons and Riders alike. Morzan’s ambitions were always tied to power, and this would elevate his house above every other family and race in Alagaësia, perhaps even challenging Galbatorix himself.
If Selena were still alive, Morzan would almost certainly use her as leverage.
He had already used Murtagh to control Selena in the past, forcing her to surrender her child to a wet nurse and limiting her contact with him. With Eragon, he would likely reverse the tactic: Selena would be kept alive and imprisoned, but preserved specifically because Eragon would desperately want to know and protect the mother he never knew. Morzan would exploit that emotional weakness relentlessly.
At the same time, Morzan would not rely solely on violence.
One of the most dangerous things about him was his charisma. Even Eragon’s vision of Morzan in Brisingr portrays him as seductive and persuasive rather than openly monstrous at first. Morzan would likely attempt to “reclaim” Eragon emotionally before resorting to outright domination. He would frame the Varden as a temporary delusion and offer Eragon power, inheritance, status, and belonging:
“My son, come with me. Together, we can destroy the Varden, kill Galbatorix, and conquer all of Alagaësia.” — Brisingr
That approach would become even stronger if Selena had already died, as in canon. In that case, Morzan could no longer use her directly as leverage, so he would instead weaponize Eragon’s loneliness and unresolved longing for family. He would present himself as the only remaining parent Eragon has: the father who could supposedly give him the legacy and identity he lacked growing up.
But underneath the charm, Morzan’s reaction would still be fundamentally punitive. He would see both Murtagh and Eragon as living symbols of Selena’s rebellion against him. Murtagh ran away. Eragon was hidden from him entirely. Both sons represent a loss of control, and Morzan’s entire personality revolved around domination and possession.
Ultimately, though, Morzan would also see opportunity.
Paolini has implied in interviews and AMAs that Morzan was never entirely loyal to Galbatorix. He secretly carved his own name into the king’s throne and possessed the same hunger for kingship and power that defined many of the Forsworn. He also apparently did not want Murtagh reduced to Galbatorix’s slave.
So Morzan’s likely long-term goal would not be to hand Murtagh and Eragon over completely to the King.
Instead, he would probably try to keep both sons (and their dragons) bound primarily to him. Whether through manipulation, true-name slavery, emotional coercion, or outright torture, Morzan would want Thorn and Saphira consolidated under the authority of his house rather than the direct control of Galbatorix.
Because with two Rider sons, the only known male and female dragons alive, and the prestige of his bloodline restored, Morzan would begin to see a future where his house became the true ruling power of Alagaësia. His deepest ambitions would finally come true.
13 & 22 for Murtagh and your OC!
13: for both cases, I think it's very much a situation where what they each need most is not something that either have explicitly said, but rather an unspoken understanding on both sides. Murtagh needs to take his time with any kind of intimate relationship, Anath caught this very early on and despite his tendency to act on feelings rather than thought, he really puts so much effort into patience and Murtagh really appreciates that; that Anath is able to respect his boundaries and say "take your time, I'll be waiting for you". In Anath's case, he needs to be able to have someone who he can trust with his life when he doesn't trust himself. He avoids using magic where he can, he knows it's safe but there's still that nagging fear of losing control. Murtagh's willing to be there to help him ground himself when he starts questioning his sanity.
22: Anath would want to change how anxious Murtagh gets about things (Thorn agrees), but at the same time is incredibly charmed by how thoughtful Murtagh's overthinking can be. Murtagh would change Anath's tendency to speak without thinking (he's had to talk them out of so many situations that were a result of this), but he loves how observant Anath is and his ability to listen.
