He was so real for this. Especially after everything that Galbatorix did to Thorn

Murtagh would have done anything for someone he loves. He would have killed Galbatorix again just to make him pay for Thorn's pain. And Murtagh knows that these thoughts don't make him a good person, that Eragon is better than him because he wanted Galbatorix to understand the pain

But it is who Murtagh is. He loves with his whole heart, and when someone hurts those he loves, he chooses violence. Because for all his life, anyone he has ever loved were killed/tortured, so he chooses to strike first, to eliminate the potential danger

(This is why he fiercely protected Eragon in the first book, because Eragon was his only friend

Also when he wanted to go back to Dras Leona and kill Galbatorix by himself, because he had no one and Tornac was killed – a suicidal mission

And it’s why he was furious enough to try to kill Eragon when Eragon risked Murtagh's plan to save Nasuada. In that moment, Nasuada's survival was his only priority)

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.

There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

13, 21, and 39 for Murtagh and Anath

13: Stay home/go-out? What are their date nights like?

Stay home all the way. Simple food and just chatting until they're both too tired to form any proper thoughts and just laugh at everything

21: (answered in prev post!)

39:  Do they get along with the other's family? If not, how do they deal with the other's family?

Thorn likes Anath a lot and they get along really well (they often team up to annoy the hell out of Murtagh)

Eragon is very neutral about Anath, but was won over by his willingness to help at the Academy, eventually trusting him to become a main swordfighting instructor and much later coming to accept him as a sort of brother-in-law, though Anath's past as a Shade made him very wary

Alín bullies Anath at first and teases Murtagh endlessly for having a crush on him but in the end they get along really well and find they have a lot in common. The two bicker endlessly but its out of affection trust

Anath's father, Ionrenn did NOT like Murtagh (for obvious reasons) and took a very long time to come to terms with Anath's relationship with him (Faerden had to convince him that it was OKAY, it's not like any of them had been present in Anath's life up till that point and they had to accept him despite the fact of everything he'd done when they thought he was dead, being in love with Murtagh was so low on their list of Problematic Things Anath Had Done in comparison). I think Murtagh got a masterclass in Elven customs from Eragon (Anath joined) and was just VERY polite towards Ionrenn.

Faerden (Anath's brother) was of course wary because Murtagh had killed Oromis, who was a highly respected elf, but warmed up to him much faster than his father did, and shares a great mutual respect with Murtagh. He and Murtagh bonded over swords and Murtagh was fascinated by the fact that Faerden is a smith.

Ida, Ionrenn's partner and basically a second mother to Anath, was a bit shocked, but was just glad that Anath was happy

21:  Any routines one has that the other had to get used to (ex. morning, nighttime, sleeping habits)?

I definitely feel like Murtagh has a meticulous haircare routine once he settles at Arngor (gotta take care of that curly hair man) whereas Anath is more of an "if my hair isn't tangled beyond help then It's Fine" and finds Murtagh's routine absolutely hilarious until one day Murtagh sits him down and goes "yk if you actually took care of your hair maybe it would stop being such a mess in your face" and forcefully cuts Anath bangs and discovers that he actually does have really nice wavy hair. Anath would not admit for weeks that he actually like it and when he does Murtagh was just like "mhm I told you"

Anath did not hear the end of it from Ilgra and Fíryia

30: Pet names? Yes or no?

not something I've ever thought about much but I think Torix and Morzan would be very traditional in regards to pet names, "love", "dearest", "my darling", etc.

I like to think they also use the same petnames but in the ancient language! (im going on my very limited knowledge of nordic languages here and editing slightly) so things like kjaerste and so on

40: Who is the skilled shopper for holidays? Who always waits 'til the last minute to get all of their gifts? (Which one gets stressed out easily)?

Orrin. Orrin all the way. he thinks gifts out meticulously and plans to a t. Everything is bought and wrapped months before.

Murtagh procrastinates and overthinks and thus things get done last minute BC WHAT IF THEY DONT LIKE THE GIFT. Thorn is the demon on his shoulder telling him to buy EVERYTHING

little bit of Anath angst

this idea came to me based on a panel from an older drawing of him with the spirit(s) that possessed him. that or just him interacting with a spirit in the wild. he would've been terrified in the latter case but would've warmed up to the gentle nature of spirits in their natural unprovoked state.

Okay so I actually locked in and did a lineup of *some* of the main characters approximately in between Brisingr and Inheritance!! These took me ages and I got the idea for the frames about 30 minutes ago so sorry if some sizing is messed up (for example I think Nasuada is not as proportionate to the frame compared to the others but we will all pretend you didn't see it!)

Anyways in order of appearance we have: Eragon, Arya (the only one i didn't draw from scratch bc i liked the original drawing too much lol), Murtagh (who gets his own goth villain frame), Nasuada, Roran, Orik and Oromis! enjoyyyyy
