I have these million conflicting themes as a person, the desire to abandon societies standards and go out all night at clubs in neon outfits and ruin myself, but also to be soft and spend my time drinking tea and flipping through books about flowers, or to be intense, wearing deep colours and bold black eyeliner looking as if I could destroy a person with a glance, or embrace my artsy side fully, paint splatters covering my clothes and my sketchbooks filled with every thought that comes into my mind

and yet, I sit here doing none of these things because I feel like I’m not allowed to be all of them or I don’t have the time, so I’m just sitting here trying to be everything that makes me happy and bruh lemme tell you, I’ll be amazing when I am

[Pg.187 - 209] “Some clarification: A straight In-Between is the middle pose between keyframe A and B. Everything is the middle, the head, the hands and hair. Now sometimes a straight In-B is just fine not everything needs fancy movement. Not in this case the 1st-Ani has an In-B that leans back and pauses. She opens her eyes, lifts her hands and looks startled. Then she swings to pose B, but her head swings down, making her hair swing forward. She moves her head first, then body, then hands, not everything at once. There’s a lot more going on, nothing drastic but it makes a HUGE difference.”

In my humble opinion, Coraline is one of the best movie adaptations out there because it actually strays away from the book a lot and adds/changes several different things, but it does so all for the sake of a visual medium which is exactly what a movie adaptation should do!

There’s nothing showing the Beldam making the doll but darn it if that’s not the most aesthetically pleasing scene in stop motion animation:

The appearance of the tunnel is never described (other than it being musty and her feeling a force behind her) so they made a psychedelic tube: 

In the book, she meets the three ghost children at a generic picnic but the movie, for reasons I will always love, decided to show them against an animated, interconnecting, version of the Starry Night:

The blue hair, the garden, the world falling apart—

Everything is tweaked to be more visually pleasing.

Which is the point of turning a book into a movie in the first place!
