Rumi's patterns reminded me of my spider veins.

(Spider veins are webs of small, visible blue, purple, or red veins on the skin. I have them on my legs, and they made me feel self-conscious).

Like Rumi, I've always tried to hide them. Rumi always wears jackets and long-sleeved shirts, and I always wear long pants, even in the heat of the summer.

Wearing anything above the knee has been a huge no for me, especially in recent years, as my "vein patterns" have gotten worse from standing on my feet too long (I hate my job). Even at the beach, I wear pants instead of a swimsuit.

Every time I see normal, healthy legs, even chubbier ones, I get jealous.

Seeing Rumi take off her jacket at the end of the film was cathartic. I can't describe how much it meant to me. And when she went to the bathhouse with her friends... not gonna lie, it hit hard.

Thank you, Rumi, for stopping hiding. I think this summer I'm going to try wearing a short dress for the first time since before my spider veins.
