Gun Control- Why is it a bad idea?
In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando I have been noticing a rather large resurgence of people saying that America needs to implement more and more gun control, and honestly, yes, I do agree that there should be some actions taken to maintain responsible ownership of Guns, but this does not amount to limiting access to or completely removing our (as a nation) right to have and possess weapons. It starts with education, to teach our nation as a whole the proper usage and handling of weapons.
It is a delusional idea to think that if the general population's rights to have and own Guns is limited or fully removed that violence committed with Firearms will decrease or completely disappear, sadly, the truth is that it will likely increase, because the bad people, will acquire weapons one way or another here are just a couple examples of how easy it really is;
The first one is just a basic slam fire shotgun https://youtu.be/NVhceWZiYPQ and this one right here which is a repeating shotgun, https://youtu.be/X2m7cnBOakI and even in the event that the evil people in this world were completely unable to get ahold of a firearm, and just could not manage to build one, if violence is the true end game desire for them; having an unarmed population just makes this goal for them that much easier.
Take this, for example, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-26402367?SThisFB this happened this weekend in china, a group of people, entered a train station with large knives and started randomly and viciously stabbing and slashing at everyone ultimately killing 29 and wounding another 130 more. WITH KNIVES! the problem? none of the victims was legally allowed to have a gun, there was no-one there who could see this happening and make it stop, so basically everyone in the train station was forced to be stuck in there in chaos with madmen running around jabbing and swinging what was effectively machetes at anything that moved, until the police got there... who then used GUNS to make the violence stop.
Personally, I don't believe the answer is to take guns away from everyone, but rather to ensure that everyone is armed.. think about it, inherently, there are a whole lot more good people in this world than there are bad people in general, and almost 100% of the time, the best way to fix a problem, is to create a deterrent. There would be no better deterrent to know, that every single person you see likely has a weapon, and knows how to use that weapon, it would cause would-be evildoers to have second thoughts on their plans, and realize that they likely won't be very successful.
Now that I have gotten those basic logic points out there, I am going to talk a bit about the major reason it is in everyone's best interests for us as Americans to maintain our rights to own and possess weapons.
It is safe to assume, that the majority of people in America, live a comfortable life, with no worries of the American way of life in a general sense will never go anywhere. It is nowhere in anyone's mind that another country will ever come in and attack America or try to invade us, that thought is typically seen as ridiculous and just an impossibility... but have you ever taken a moment to actually think about WHY?
Well, to start with, America as a whole has a lot of faith in out Military, with good reason, a simple google search will provide a wealth of statistics and graphs and lists showing that America undeniably has the most powerful Military on the planet, and even though we only have the second largest military, with China being number 1 having nearly twice as many active duty personnel as we do, our military spending absolutely Dwarfs the entire planet with America's Military Budget being larger than the Next 8 countries COMBINED.
After that we will take a look at Geography, in order for another Country to successfully attack and invade America, there are only a few different ways to approach it, they could use an amphibious type of assault and come at us full force from the east or the west coast or both, they can try a land invasion by coming down from the North from Canada or up from the south from Mexico, or they can use Nuclear weapons to weaken our infrastructure and then Invade.
Starting with a Nuclear attack, this is highly unlikely, since a nuclear attack by any country on just about any other country in the world would most certainly lead to the complete and total destruction of the planet (google mutually assured destruction http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Mutually+assured+destruction).
A land invasion from either the north or the south, would require the Attacker to either ally with invade said country respectively, which would mean, that the invading country by the time they reach us they have already been in a long difficult war, not to mention we would no doubt provide assistance to our neighbors. Again, not a very high possibility of a successful invasion can be applied to this method either.
There is then a direct coastal invasion from either the East or the West, this method probably has the highest chances for success, but would still be very daunting think or (think of the movie Red Dawn http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087985/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/). To start with, the majority of our Largest military bases and equipment are located on the coasts, with the world's largest Naval base being located on our own east coast. A coastal invasion would likely start with attempting to weaken our defenses, by bombing, and Naval attacks. and then ultimately dropping off large numbers of ground troops to start the journey inland.
Now, in this Scenario, you would have to consider a few things, most importantly, the sheer size of America, our Geographical land area of just the continental United States, is, well, Massive, in fact, its about twice the size as the whole Continent of western Europe, if you include Hawaii and Alaska, it more closely approaches 3 times the size.
This means IF they were able to successfully invade and get through our defenses there is still ALOT more land area they would need to conquer... And THIS is where our Guns come in... The invaders would be entering the heartland of America, a place where over 300 Million privately owned firearms reside, where many of the owners of these weapons have knowledge and training in combat and military tactics, owners who typically are avid hunters, which relies on the ability to track and set up an ambush, in areas that they call home, and know very well, effectively being an army approximately 100 million strong using ambush guerilla tactics, which would quickly turn into a losing battle for whoever decided they wanted to attempt an Attack on America.
Everyone in the world knows and understands this, it is no secret. This is the exact reason no country will dare attack us. However, it is also no secret that the key to having any chance at success would be to disarm our people, and the easiest route to that goal, is to take advantage of the ever widening Rift that is currently present in America, and playing on the fears of the people whom are too self-confident in our security in America and are oblivious to the fact that by owning weapons, you aren't welcoming Violence, or hatred, but rather deterring it.
