when you tell people passports don't need to exist and people should be able to travel as they did throughout most of human history they think that's going too far because in their mind there exists a hoard of nameless faceless immigrants waiting to flood their country and "take over". without realising that there is nothing inherently superior about the imperial core countries - the culture, the food, the clothing, the architecture is not superior than that of the rest of the world. all you've got going for you are the benefits reaped from hundreds of years of historical colonisation and the continuing benefits of modern day imperialism. do you think if people's homes weren't subject to manufactured violence, artificial scarcity, and systematic disenfranchisement they'd all just wanna leave? can you not imagine a life where someone would be happier living in uganda than the usa?
has anyone else noticed that its awesome to have an anthropomorphic animal representation of yourself that you can draw in situations

it is impossible to watch a movie. every night i think i want to watch a movie. no movie gets watched. because it's not possible
and yet they keep making movies with the hopes that one day humanity will discover a way to watch them. it's so inspiring
today's gregor samsa is: on testosterone!
the fear mongering around transmasculine people who sing going on testosterone genuinely pisses me off. yes, you will be able to sing. no, you won't lose your voice. no, low voices aren't ugly (where are people even getting this shit???). no, higher voices aren't prettier. sing through the changes (don't push anything). hydrate. h y d r a t e. please don't stop singing, your voice will sound amazing.

I like how I'm a slut to the core, but I can't seem to enjoy hookup culture because people are so weird and shitty and it feels bad :(
Expectation - yeah I wanna have fun with people and explore things sexually without the pressure of a long term relationship yeah! I won't treat it casual either I'll respect that this is very vulnerable and our emotional and physical health comes first.
Reality - "yeah sorry I was supposed to tell you this like 3 months ago but I'm actually having sex with 2 other people I didn't tell you about and also that thing you said yesterday reminded me of my ex and triggered me so I don't want to talk to you ever again cuz ur so toxic and problematic"
Me: ....... huh?

I've read books from centuries ago and some describe hauntingly the same thing we experience today. A person in the city goes to the countryside and takes a moment to note the quiet, the freedom, the fresh air, the nature. They sometimes even deliberately pack food with the intention of sitting out in a field and enjoying the day while they're out there.
I could be biased in the books I'm reading, but I find it terrifying that we have such a large amount of people who see the "countryside" (or just nature) as a gross and bad thing. We experience a certain level of destitute city life (was worse in some past centuries before public health laws believe me) but that city person doesn't visit the countryside and revels in the fresh air and quiet. People tell me they hate the quiet. They can't be alone with their thoughts. They don't notice the sights or smells. They sit there bored and don't know what to do. I had some coworkers come with me to go birding and they wanted to put music on because they were so bored.
I don't think its because they don't want to. I think they don't know how. Our cities are so extensive and every aspect of your life can occur without ever leaving one. People in centuries past had been socialized that the city is a bad and nasty place, full of filth, bad air, and disease. It's the place to do work and the most desperate workers live in the crowded inner areas. Children were taken to green spaces as a result. The natural desirable third space for many young people was nature.
Now that you can live your whole life in a city and our cities aren't nearly uninhabitable cess pools (most of the time), people grow up quite literally never hearing wind blowing through trees or grass. Songs of birds. Breathing something other than city smells when you're away from home.
Maybe I can kinda synthesize something about how to get people to care in my sociology class lmao
