During Sunday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, Heather McGhee, a black woman who is the president of the public policy organization Demos, was asked a curious question about prejudice and racial issues from a white man. Her beautiful response just went viral.
Unfortunately, such questions have never been televised before and that explains the popularity of the video.
Let’s stop racial prejudice. Boost!
#Racism
He says, reverse racism doesn’t exist. He doesn’t think he’s racist. This is from a thread where he took photos of a black family at Walmart one of the children didn’t have a shirt or shoes on. (SO WHAT!) He and his other racist buddies on Facebook berated the family in the photo. Called the kids monkeys (Seriously, wtf 😡😡) and has no problem throwing the N-word around. One of my friends who is a poc copy and pasted that post which is where I read it and where Justin P Alexander shared this bit of ignorance. This was directed at my friend. Pretty much all of his comments were bigoted, I barely said a thing and he called me a dumb ass broad and to keep my mouth shut. This is someone I went to school with. Do your worst to him. He’s a terrible person. Going to contact his employer right now.
It’s times like these I wish I had more followers to expose asshats like these. 😞
Tonight I came across a load of old documents dating back to 2010. The early stages of adulting Tori had a lot of heart and soul and was so encouraging of who she wanted to become even though she was so sad. She didn’t give up, even when feeling defeated. She would tell it like it is, reminding a blank page the realities of the world shouldn’t be as scary as they seem.
I read a lot of things that broke my heart. Things I predicted years ago that happened, feelings of falling into the abyss that seem even more present than before. It reminds me to trust my heart more, because it seemed to know things years ago I’m still grasping today. A blast into the past brings my world to a lower level, and I’m feeling lost on what that next step should be.
That changing feeling, should I be happy? Because parts of myself are feeling a bit scared, like I lost an old friend I didn’t realize slipped through the cracks.
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.
