My wife's BFF since like 3rd grade is, for all intents and purposes, my wife's sister and my sister-in-law. Fuck, I'VE known her for 40 years at this point.
Her oldest (28) just texted my wife a picture of her 13-week sonogram. We're so happy for her! I'm too young to be a granduncle, but whatevah... 🤣 I mean, I'm 57 but still 21 in my head.
Her mom must have been dying keeping it from my wife. They haven't synced up yet, but I'm guessing they will shortly
Hurro Tumblr!
We had our friends over for dinner tonight. I made 3 pounds of rib eye, plus we had corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, corn bread, brownies... I'm stuffed. It was really fun and great to see them. They live two doors down from our house and have become really good friends. My wife and her do dinner every couple of weeks, but the four of us get together as often as we can. Usually once a month or so.
My wife read them in about the condo/resort a few weeks ago so they had a bunch of questions and wanted to hear all about it, etc. They were totally cool about it. I doubt they'll ever come down, but the offer is there, even if they want to just come down one weekend night and hang out in the club.
The gals may have split a THC infused drink and were feeling quite fine 🤣
Ok, need to go into a food coma...
Us: We need to eat better Also Us: Hey, that Family Sized box of Cheeze-Its that we bought last week is gone; we need another one
It us.
Recently I was chatting with a former coworker and was reminded of this incident, back around 2017 if I had to guess. Never had I wanted to smack the shit out of someone so badly.
I'm sure I've told this story here before, but maybe not.
So, our office building had a parking lot that, for some reason, was separated into two sections by a fence. In the fence was a gate that you could walk through to get to the other side. The side closest to the street didn't really have any fence. Diagonally across the street was a Mexican restaurant that sucked, but we'd go there for lunch sometimes because it was super close. That place appears to be gone now, according to Google Maps
Anyway, one day, my buddy and I were walking to eat there. We were chit-chatting on the way. We walked through the gate and, as it was closing, I caught someone out of the corner of my eye and realized that they were like 5 feet behind us. I was all, "OH WHOOPS!" and grabbed the gate as it was closing and held it open so she could walk through. As she walked through, I was like, "So sorry, didn't see you were behind us!" You know, being polite, having manners, holding the door for someone, as most decent people do.
This woman, who worked at our company but I did not know, and to this day couldn't pick her out of a lineup, sneers at me and nastily goes "I'm capable of opening a door myself, I've done it many times..." as she brushes past us.
Being that she was a coworker, I restrained myself and simply replied, "I'm sure you can; however, I was brought up with manners and was taught that it's polite to hold the door for someone who's in close proximity behind you," and we continued walking on our way.
She was going to the same place as we were, so my friend and I just walked the rest of the way over in silence til we broke away. While we were walking, I was wondering if I misheard her tone or if I said something that was misconstrued or whatever. Like, did I mishear her words and tone, and she said something like "Not to worry, I'm capable..." in a joking manner? I figured I'd ask P when we got to our table.
We sat down, and he immediately went "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?!?!?" So I was like, "Ok, that wasn't just me misinterpreting?" He was like, "Uh, no, you were being completely polite and did what any normal person would have done, and she was being a complete fucking douchebag..." Like I was taking away her power or independence and holding her back or pushing women's rights back 50 years or something.
I swear, some fucking people...
Side note: the following weekend, we were in CA and at our friends' condo. Our friend is super involved in advocating for women's rights, feminism, etc (and I'm not saying that in a political way, just describing who I was talking to), and I told her the story and asked if I did/said something wrong, or could have done something differently (I was genuinely confused at why this woman had that reaction). She immediately got angry and was like "OMG NO! I would have wanted to fucking smack her! What the fuck was her deal???"
Anyway... 🤣
And for real, do any of you see a problem with what I did or said, or how that could have been misconstrued or whatever? Even all of these years later, I still have no idea what the problem was. Maybe she was just having a bad day or whatever, but you'd think after I replied "I was taught..." she could have been like "Sorry, bad day" or whatever instead of acting like I was some sort of chauvinist asshole for holding a door for her. Which, by the way, had nothing to do with the fact that she was female. I would have done the same thing had it been my 6'8" 350 lbs former NFL linebacker friend... 🤣
Here's something I haven't done in a while: Stayed down at the condo for only three nights 🤣 At this time of year, we're typically down there most weekends, so I tend to stay for 10+ days at a time. Sometimes almost three weeks. But it slows down a little bit after Memorial Weekend, and the triple-digit temperatures are starting this week. Not to mention, I do actually have things I need to do at the house and in the vicinity
We did have a nice, relaxing weekend. We got in on Thursday evening, then my wife and I headed over to a Mexican restaurant we really like. It's only a mile or two away, and somehow we haven't been there since Labor Day weekend with a big group of people. We've never gone on a weeknight, and it was much calmer than when we're usually there. The food was great, as always.
Friday was a workday, but then we went over to the resort lounge for Happy Hour. We wanted to see our friends who were surprisingly on site for a bit. We had dinner with them on Thursday before Memorial Weekend, then he went in for scheduled major open heart surgery the next morning. He looked great and was feeling pretty damn good. It will be a long recovery, but he's doing great so far. The next day, he said he overdid it, though, so they wouldn't be coming back for Saturday Happy Hour. And no, he wasn't drinking; he just came over to get out of the house and see friends. But we have to be careful, and he can't touch anyone, etc., for a month or so.
At around 6:30, we took Ozzy over to the observation deck, which is his favorite place. Especially on weekends, because he can watch people pull up and park below us, and he can watch people come out of the pool area or come out of the lounge/nightclub. Sometimes he can tractor-beam someone and get them to come over to say hi to him 🤣 We were up there for probably 45 minutes, and a few friends came over, chilled, smoked some weed, then headed off to the hot tub.
One couple we know, who sometimes run Karaoke and/or DJ in the lounge, came in. They knew nothing was scheduled for the night, so they figured they'd run Karaoke if anyone wanted to do it. After we ate our dinner and fed Ozz, we headed over, not expecting to see anyone in there. Surprisingly, there were people! Maybe 20 or 30 or so. We stayed for a little while, then called it a night.
Saturday was a decent day at the pool. The weather was pretty good, though we did need our chair umbrellas; it was hot in the direct sun! There was a decent crowd, more than I expected for the weekend after a holiday weekend. But the lounge on Saturday was dead! A lot of condo owners were offsite at a party at someone's (who we don't know) house. We got to the lounge at 8:30 and were like "Yeah, we'll stay like 15 minutes..." I wasn't planning on having any drinks, but the bartender saw me, and she opened a beer and handed it to me. I was obligated 🤣 A few of our friends did show up, but we didn't stay very long. We heard it never really got any livelier.
We knew we were leaving on Sunday and figured we'd leave earlier than usual so that I could get to the butcher near our house. They're closed on Monday, and we're having our friends/neighbors over for dinner on Tuesday, so I needed to stop by. My wife and I spent maybe an hour or so under the shaded ramada between the two pools, said hello to a few people, though it was pretty quiet in there. We packed up and headed out at around noon, got to the butcher, and were home by 2:30.
We're not heading down next weekend, which will seem weird 🤣
Tuesday: Dinner with our friends. My wife had dinner with the wife of that couple a few weeks ago and decided to tell her about the resort and why we're sometimes not forthcoming about info or ever invite them down. She was intrigued by the idea and didn't know such places existed. The next morning, she texted "[husband] has lots of questions lol," so this ought to be an amusing conversation on Tuesday. I'm guessing they wouldn't come down sometime, but hey, you never know!
Wednesday: Doctor appointment. My every-few-months check-in with my oncologist. We've been monitoring some of my red blood cell numbers, so every 6 months, I get a blood draw and chat with him. Nothing to be alarmed about, but something to keep an eye on. Last time my numbers were back in the normal range, this time they're slightly elevated again (I saw the lab report from the blood company). He may have me go do a Phlebotomy again. It's no big deal, just takes time out of my day.
Friday: Bringing Ozzy to his vet for a check-in. It's been a few months, and it's time for her to see his progress, and we can talk about his meds, if we should cut back on food intake now, and most importantly, when we need to schedule him for the ole snip-a-roo.
Saturday: Dinner with some friends whom we haven't seen in a while. He's my oldest friend (we grew up together; his grandmother lived across the street from my house), and he lives in AZ now too. I haven't seen him since we went to a concert in December, and I haven't seen his wife since a month or two before that. It will be nice to catch up with them.
We may possibly see another couple who we haven't seen in quite a while on Friday or Sunday, too. Depends on their schedule. But their dog just got injured (broken ankle) and is going in for surgery tomorrow, so we don't yet know if they'll be able to get away.
There's no way anyone actually read this far... 🤣
Our Samsung range, when you hit Bake, set a temperature, and hit Start, plays a "🎵Doodle-dee-DEE🎵" sound. I think it very much sounds like the Addams Family theme song, so always go [snap][snap] after it
My wife rolls her eyes at me. Occasionally a "Really....?"
🤣
I just ran into Snake Wrangler Dude and his lady while walking Ozzy. We always stop to chat. He said some people who stayed here recently (maybe even this past week, and I could possibly have met them) had a little dog that escaped, and a coyote nabbed it 😢
That really, really sucks.
