Dean stilled, hearing that quiets sound of something scraping the floor, moving closer to him. He braced himself, years of fight kicking in, his hand slowly getting under the table, ready to get his knife out and finish whatever was trying to come closer. Only slightly touch on his combat boot, almost missed, made him aware that it was in fact only Bao’s foot. The man relaxed at that, cursing at himself in mind. He couldn’t help the little frown that showed on his face after question. His body tensed again, but he nodded with short yeah, sit. It was a little weird for him, mostly people asked to sit away from him, so he didn’t really understood why nixie wanted to be closer. Especially after this little… incident right now.
He could feel a wave of worry, a delicate echo from the bond and he looks at Bao closely, alarmed by it. Something happened? No, he was there all the time, he would know. Only after more question he finally catches up that boy (he really need to stop thinking of him like that) feel worried for him. That’s surprised him, but only for a moment, because yeah, logically if he would get hurt, nixie would too. That might cause a worry, of course.
“Yeah,” Dean answered, nodding shortly. “I had another hunter with me and it was a really small nest, nothing important. I will inform you if I will get some more dangerous mission,” he said, like coming into demons’ nest wasn’t dangerous.
The man cracked a smile, hearing the passion in Bao’s voice. Angels, he looked so alive, it was adorable. “To be honest, I never really paid attention to it,” he said awkwardly, struggling slightly. “But we can go to park after this if you want,” he proposed, raising a brow. It wasn’t something he would do in his free time on his own, but it wouldn’t hurt to get to know nixie, yeah? And it’s not like looking at birds and sitting around the greens was a hard task.
He froze at the slight motion, trying to process the jolt of adrenaline that passed between them. It was fast, instinctive, and almost violent, but unattached to any positive or negative emotion. Was Dean…. scared? Of him? The moment passed, and he realized that no, it was wariness, not fear that caused it, like flinching away from someone who raised a hand, peaceful intent unimportant.
Right, so Dean would do better with slow movements and space. He could do that, and he did, giving the man a wide berth before lowering himself easily into the space beside him, yet keeping his body angled towards him to give a clear view of his relaxed posture, glancing at the cafe’s staff as they busied around the counter, keeping his focus off the man for a few seconds. Maybe it wasn’t the best strategy for people, but it worked fine for animals. “Is this okay? I can go back if you want.”
Bao shuffled slightly, gaze falling to the table as he uttered a quiet “thanks,” unsure if he understood. Weren’t all demons dangerous, more so when they were in a nest? Of course Dean would know better than him what was or wasn’t likely to cause him harm, but something didn’t sit right in his heart. “Does someone come with you every time, or are you on your own? Who’s the other hunter?”
He lit up at the mention of a trip to the park, but shook his head; people were rarely interested in observing animals in the way he did, and he didn’t want to bore this big, bad monster hunter to death so early in their relationship. “It’s okay. You’ve seen birds your whole life, right? You’d probably be bored out of your mind listening to me tell you what you already know.”
