Grace was really hesitant to go to his brother Colt’s bachelor party. He wasn’t the type to go out partying, especially in Las Vegas but Colt had begged him to go.
“Please? I want you to come! You’re gonna get on great with my friends!” Colt begs him. Grace just sighed and agreed and that’s how he ended up knocking on the door of a massive hotel room where Colt, him and colt’s friends are gonna be staying. He just hopes he has the right room.
He waits after knocking and the door opens and Grace comes face to face with a long haired man with only one arm. He looks really intimidating and Grace suddenly panics and checks the room number to make sure he has the right room.
“Uh, hi.” Grace gets out. “I’m looking for my brother, Colt?”
The man is still staring at him and Grace wants the ground to swallow him whole.
“Ry! You made it! I see you’ve met Simon already!” Colt appears. “I hope you weren’t scaring my baby brother, Si!”
“We’re the same age, Colt!” Grace rolls his eyes.
“Sorry for making you nervous.” Simon apologises as he moves to let Grace come into the massive room.
“It’s ok. It’s nice to meet you Simon. I’m Grace, Colt’s twin brother.” He holds out his hand for Simon to shake which he does. Nice hand shake.
“Nice to meet you too. Colt has told us all about you.” Simon admits.
“All good things I hope?” Grace jokes and he swears he sees a small smile appear on Simon’s face.
“You worry too much, Ry. I mostly tell them about your work.” Colt tells him and the others in the group who Grace has noticed has gathered around them nods. Grace relaxes a little, still a bit on edge as he doesn’t know these people as well.
Once they’ve gotten settled they decide to leave to go bar hopping and see some stunt shows. It’s not really Grace’s cup of tea but he’s willing to go along with it to make his brother happy. In the meantime though, he’s started to chat with Simon about Grace’s research and Grace rambles a bit before realising he’s done all the talking. “Fudge, I’ve been talking a lot. You probably want to say something.”
Simon shakes his head. “No. I don’t mind listening to you talk. I quite enjoy it.” Simon’s face is red and grace doesn’t know if that’s the alcohol that’s making him flustered or because it’s really hot in this club they’re in. Grace has had to yell over the loud music to talk to Simon. Simon smiles at him and Grace feels his cheeks heat up. Oh this man is handsome when he smiles like that.
What is he thinking right now?! He’s at Colt’s bachelor party! He isn’t here to hook up with one of his friends! That would make it awkward for his brother and for Simon.
“Really? I’m not boring you to death?” Grace has to yell over the music.
“No! I find you fascinating actually!” Simon yells back and Grace definitely thinks they’re both a bit drunk right now to think straight. “I’m gonna get us another drink. Want the same as last time?”
Grace nods. He hadn’t realised that he had drank the fruity cocktail he was drinking as he fiddled with the straw nervously. It’s been a while since Grace has gotten drunk. The last time he got drunk was at a frat party in college. The one Colt dragged him to.
Simon leaves to grab them drinks. That is a good point, where is Colt and the others. He looks around and spots them a very drunk Colt and his friends trying to get on stage where the DJ booth is and Grace can’t help but roll his eyes but he starts to film them as he knows Jody will get a kick out of this in the morning.
Soon Simon comes back with their drinks and they continue to chat about life and work. They’re definitely super drunk when Simon drunkenly tells Grace. “One thing I’m jealous of Colt for, and you better not tell him this, is that he’s getting married.”
“Oh? I’m kind of glad I wasn’t the only one. Love has come easy for my brother and I’m happy for him and Jody! Jody is a wonderful woman and she really balances my brother out but sometimes…. I don’t know, it gets lonely? Going to work to teach wonderful kids, making sure they get home safely to their parents to then come home to an empty apartment isn’t the nicest.”
“I get what you mean. I love travelling and working on movie sets and I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to be travelling a lot for shooting but I kind of wished I had someone to share the world with.” Simon sighs softly before taking another swig of his beer.
Grace then gets a crazy idea and he knows the alcohol is talking when he comes out with. “We should get married. Then we wouldn’t be so lonely.” Then he pauses and then starts up again. “But you probably want to actually find someone who understands you-“
Simon thinks about it for a moment before downing the rest of his beer and standing up and holding out his hand for Grace to take.
“Simon what-“ Grace goes to ask.
“We’re going to get married.” Simon still has his hand out for Grace and Grace is stunned.
“I- you- really want to do this?” Grace asks stunned. “With me of all people? I’m the least interesting person in this room-“ he rambles in panic.
“I do. Now, come on! We have to go put our suits on for the wedding before we go to the chapel!” Simon exclaims a little.
“But what about my brother and your friends? They’re gonna wonder where we are.” Grace asks still stunned before he downs the rest of his drink.
“They’ll be fine! They have our phone numbers.” Simon tells him before saying “unless you’ve changed your mind? Then we can forget this whole thing-“
“No! I want to! Let’s go!” Grace yells over the loud music as he stands up and takes Simon’s hand in his. Simon’s hand is really warm and it feels nice in Grace’s. They practically run out of the club before hailing a taxi to take them back to the hotel.
Grace can’t help but bounce his leg when they’re in the taxis, a nervous tic he has grown up with.
Once they arrived and gotten back into the room to get drunkenly changed into their wedding suits, they get down to the chapel. Their bow ties are a bit askew as they rush back down and towards the chapel.
Grace adjusts Simon’s bow tie with a smile and Simon does the same for Grace. It’s a small domestic moment that Grace could get used to.
Their names are soon called and they stand opposite each other and are holding their hands. Grace can feel Simon’s prosthetic and how cold it is compared to how warm Simon practically is.
They’re staring into each other’s eyes as the officiant helps to get the two desperate men married to each other even after only knowing each other for an evening.
“You may now kiss!” Both Simon and Grace move to kiss the other and it’s perfect. Everyone Grace has ever dreamed of whenever he thought about his potential future.
Grace really doesn’t remember anything at all after that. He does remember waking up the next morning with a gold band around his finger and he’s in bed laying face down with at least just boxers on. He looks around the room to see everyone else is passed out. Good. They managed to get back to the room safely last night. He tries to look for Simon but he was in his own bed and they end up locking eyes and they whisper soft heys to each other.
Colt’s wedding goes off without a hitch and Grace does cry a good few times. Him and Simon chat but it’s mostly small talk except for when they’re showing Jody the video of what Colt and the others got up to last night.
Grace doesn’t get Simon’s number but that’s ok! He can always ask him whenever he sees him again which he hopes is soon because it’s been weeks since his brother’s wedding when he receives an envelope with a marriage certificate inside.
Dr. Ryland Grace and Mr. Simon Grace.
Sugar. That explains how he got the gold band that’s now on his ring finger and why he saw a matching one on Simon’s hand that morning after the bachelor party.
Grace has to find a way to contact Simon.
