As many of the topics in mathematics involve learning algorithms and applying these to a given context, it is often more time-efficient to write out notes on a topic only once, and use these to answer as many questions as possible. Not only will this test the clarity of your notes, but it will save you time and ensure that you are able to answer any question that appears in your paper. After all, the end goal of your course is to succeed at the exams.Ā
If you are stuck on a topic, ask for help as soon as possible. Due to the nature of mathematics, running into a problem now can affect your ability to learn subsequent topics. There is no need to be embarrassed - mathematics is a difficult subject. Your teachers will understand this, and, as long as you have attempted to resolve the issue, should be more than willing to help you.
If your classmates are stuck on a topic, offer them help if you are able to. Not only is this great revision, but it will make you more confident in your abilities. After all, the ability to teach demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the subject, which is vital to being able to answer the most difficult questions.
For A-level students, past papers can be found at Physics and Maths Tutor, along with mark schemes, summary notes and revision sheets. Doing at least one past paper per module per week, marking each and revising weaker areas is key to success! There is no excuse to not do this.
Examiner reports are often provided by exam boards to accompany past papers, which give advice on where the students who sat the exam gained marks, and where errors were made. These are invaluable to those who makeĀ āsillyā mistakes, as they may offer advice on how to avoid making them again. I would recommend reading the accompanying examiner report upon the completion of each paper, where available.
