I Tried Showering Like a Man
Spoiler Alert: I’m most definitely female. I know, I checked.
Which means that I’m not a man. Pretty sure. This sparked a discussion at a recent family birthday party. Women take longer to shower. Men don’t barely have to wash their hair (at least the men in my family), and a joke was made that one of my brother’s acquaintances goes so far as to just use bar soap since he went bald early.
This got me to thinking: do men really shower that differently from women?
To begin, I need to start with my personal showering habits, and don’t worry this won’t get TMI in any way, at least not just yet.
I start by washing my face with either bar soap or a facial cleanser. I then clean some body jewelry with anti-bacterial soap. From there I use body wash on a loofah to clean the rest of my body. As the last step I shampoo and condition my hair, leaving the conditioner in while I enjoy my hot shower. I don’t shave.
I decided to start this experiment with a trip to the Dollar Tree. I picked up the stuff my brother and dad use: a 3 in 1 Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash. Since I don’t like using that stuff on my face, I stuck to my facial cleanser.
I followed my usual routine, but used the men’s 3 in 1 shampoo/conditioner/bodywash instead. I did enjoy the ocean fresh scent, and the ease of using just one product in the shower, but I felt that I was still somehow missing something. It couldn’t be this easy, could it?
So I decided to do some research on the internets to see if there was a better, and boy did I find a better way, from two very popular men of the internet.
Rhett and Link aren’t wrong - I was showering wrong - and there are a lot of steps, and some TMI. Watch the video, then come back to this post. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

I. Followed. Every. Step.
At first I was skeptical. I watched through the video. Twice. I was still skeptical. I didn’t have a butt brush either. But I mustered up the courage and tried it. I took the hair out of the shower drain and turned the shower on. I got undressed and got in.
I washed my hair, enjoying my nice warm shower. Then the part I was worried about came. I turned the water off. Now, I get cold easily, and I really don’t like being cold. So I hurried through the body wash part so I could turn the warm water back on. Something magical happened when I turned the water back on, and I don’t mean I got conditioner in my eyes.
I promised this post wasn’t going to be TMI so I’ll simply go with you have to try it for yourself.
It’s been a few weeks now since I first started this experiment and I can say that while I still shower wrong, but sometimes I shower right.
