on any other day jessie wouldn’t have bothered and would have laughed along with him but today was not going her way. her alarm didn’t go off, her car broke down which resulted in her being late and getting a lecture from woody and now to top it off she spilled her coffee over some paperwork that was going to take her ages to redo. jessie bounced on her toes unable to coherently form words to explain how upset she was and immediately latched onto michael for said hug he offered.

Michael made sure the hug was firm and stroke her hair as she seemed to be quite upset with things. “There, there you will be alright Jessie.” He calmly said to her. He could see she had a bad day from miles away and he found it his responsibility to make her feel better, anyone really. “Let’s get you a new cup of coffee and let me help you copy those papers.”

“You know, I really didn’t think I was gonna be able to get through this…,” she said solemnly, taking in a slightly dramatic breath. After all, it had been the last cinnamon swirl and to have it so cruelly knocked from her hand by some punk on a skateboard? It might actually take decades to recover. “But knowing that you’re there- thee Michael Maus- is enough to make me pick myself back up again. There’s other pastries in the sea, on the shelves. Thank you. Can I get a ‘claim later’ slip on that hug though? There could be future disasters in my life and I’d really appreciate it.”

“How horrible!” Michael exclaimed as he added to her dramatic playful display. “You know if you want I can get you a pastry for you, it would be my pleasure to brighten your day with a simple gesture?”  He snickered, though he meant it if she wanted another pastry, he was more than willing to give her exactly that. “My hugs are like always free to claim whenever they are needed.”

Lorelai had tried and failed not to roll her eyes at the peppy indulgences of Michael Maus as he consoled whoever with whatever. As if you could heal the world with a hug. What planet he was living on certainly wasn’t in any solar system Lorelai knew of but still, she waited for the interaction to be over before quirking a brow. “Does that often work for you then? Offering an inspirational quote and hug? Is everything suddenly all better?”

Michael had to laugh at Lorelai’s sceptical response to the situation. “What? Are you jealous you didn’t get a hug Lorelai?” Unlike most people Michael didn’t call her by her last name. Not out of a lack of respect, but simply because he didn’t fear her like others did. Pretty sure Michael didn’t fear anyone in this town, as long as he treated them with kindness and a good sense of humor.

“You got me, and I’m not so bad, right?” Michael said with a smile, it wasn’t often he woud find someone in a form of distress. “Everyone can have a bad day, its okay to feel sad sometimes.” He tapped against the desk. “Need a hug?”

Winnie was again wandering around the hotel. He didn’t really like being confined to his room. He liked nature and being outside most of the time. Part of him wanted to go for a walk. But it was just not the time nor the place for it. He knew that everyone else knew better than him at the moment. He was wandering along with two jars of honey. One that he was planning on eating relatively soon and one for a new friend if he happened to find one. He heard someone’s voice nearby. “You know, that is a very good question.” He said, loud enough for the other person to hear. He continued a bit quieter as not to alert anyone else. “But now seems a poor time to sneak out. Of course, I am just a silly man.”

“Are you a silly man?” That was quite a weird claim to make. It made Michael wonder in what regard so he asked him. “In what regard?” There were a lot of ways one could be called silly, hypothetical or even in a joking matter, but rarely one could find someone who truly was silly just in the way they were. “I’ll be back shortly, if you want you can come with me. Go for a walk or something?”

she understood the frustrations of others, she felt them herself. she wanted nothing more than to be back at her place on the edge of town with her home comforts. she had her dog with her but for her other animals such as her hose, she couldn’t very well bring him, and she felt worried leaving him out in his stable. “if you’re sneaking out, i’m game.” they could part ways when they were out but if there was a way to get back home without having to stay in the hotel then she was in.

More than frustrations what Michael felt was a neglect of his duty. He was the curator of the museum and that meant he had to take care of the Redwood treasures. He owned it to his ancestors, who had their pride in what they had built. And Michael felt it too, pride for this town. "I am sneaking out and you are free to follow, I'm going to the museum though." After all he had the keys.

“I think you’re a grown man and you can do what you want, but someone might not be too happy to find you frozen solid when the power finally comes back on. If it comes back on.” Based on the communication they had received, Tia wasn’t too confident that would be anytime soon. Everyday the power was out though, was a day of lost wages, so she understood wanting to get out of there. “Try to think of it as a forced staycation. At least, that’s what I’m doing.”

“Its more that I need to check that nothing happens to the museum.” Michael said in an attempt to explain his logic. “I’ll be back shortly, I just need to do the usual.” He had to, it was his duty as the Curator. His family would be disappointed if a little snow would hold him back.

“Only if you get caught.” Shock was so used to eavesdropping on others by now it didn’t even register in her mind that was doing it. Though there were a hundred voices to pick out in the sea of annoyed guests wanting their rooms, Shock’s senses had pick up on the one closest to her. Which just so happened to be Michael’s. She didn’t really mean to give away that she’d been listening. But she felt she just had to pipe in at his rhetorical question. “Don’t want to get in trouble? Don’t get caught, easy as that.”

“You are right about that!” Michael was quick to say already having a plan to leave the hotel. He just didn’t like his poor books and other fancy materials to be in potential danger. Michael lived for his job after all and it made him nervous that no one was cleaning the ports. He nodded. “Thanks for the advice, do you want to go on this mission impossible?”

Michael was not pleased. He wanted to go to the museum. He didn’t want to be in an overcrowded hotel he could just sleep in the museum, sure it’ll be cold but it would be more like home than this place. “God I wanna get out of here.” He mumbled to himself. Maybe he could use a drink, not that he often drank. He pushed through the people who were fighting for a key, he’d take whatever he gets. As long as he could just go back to the museum. “Would someone get mad if I snuck out?” He could use his phone as a flashlight.

Sunshine. Light was emmiting through Michael Maus his bedroom window and he could feel that today would be another great day. He found its way towards the dresser, he dressed himself a little warmer. The heater of the museum wasn't what it used to be. Therefor he decided on a cup of hot coffee - something to warm him up before his day began. He found himself smiling seeing Ceres snuggeling to her toy. "Be a good girl and wait for me." He whispered as he walked out of the door, greeting the people in town. What a promising day it is.
