Charlotte nodded diverting her gaze a little, “yeah, but you still need it. Normality I mean.” She said before looking up back up, “It’s the most comforting thing when everything goes to shit. Or that’s what I find anyway”
‘But isn’t it already, always, shit?” Miles asked, his gaze remaining on hers without hesitation. “What’s normal for you? Being partially naked in front of strangers?” He added, teasing her for her earlier stories.
“Well at least you’re not a liar then.” Charlotte remarked with a small laugh. “To the contrary, I’m always right. We just have different perspectives, but really, it would be boring if we all had the same one. Variety is the spice of life. Or so they say”
“See, that, we can agree on. Normal is boring. Normal’s no fun.”
“And what you’re somehow so different?” She asked with an arched brow. “Because I highly doubt that.” She stated back before cocking her head slightly listening until he’d finished. “That’s a very pessimistic way of looking at it.” She said absent mindedly twisting the ring on her middle finger. “One, it’s not the ring it’s the commitment. Two, you wouldn’t make that commitment if you ever intended to cheat or split up with them. And if you’re happy you’ll never want to, if you’re not then you shouldn’t have made that commitment.” She finished crossing her legs. “So basically, I totally disagree. So if you don’t think it’s a bond by love, then what do you think it is?“
“Well, I never said that.” Miles smirked slightly before biting down on his lip as she continued. The tall boy shook his head, “We obviously see things differently, then.” His eyes wandered to the floor before he continued, “But that still doesn’t mean your right.”
Charlotte let out a small laugh as he stepped back disguising her laugh with a sip of her drink. “I mean, I’ve never met a guy who wasn’t jealous as soon as the attention isn’t on him. The easiest way to assure attention is on you is to put a ring on it” she said with a small shrug. “So I don’t believe you’re too mainstream for marriage.”
“What if that’s because all the boys you’ve met are tools,” Miles stated, “A stupid metal circle won’t do anything but create a tan on your left hand.” the tall boy shook his head, “It surely doesn’t keep people together, or stop them from cheating... I guess, I wouldn’t know, because I’ve never experienced any of that. But anyone with eyes knows that marriage isn’t really a bond by love anymore.”
Leaning forward to his ear she whispered “make me.” Before pulling away meeting is eyes. “I call bullshit.” She said confidently leaning backwards. “Mainstream or not, boys are always..- possessive. The circumstances don’t matter.”
Miles felt a shiver run up his spine, a swift whirl of air brushing his ear as she whispered. In a flustered movement, Miles tensed up and stepped back slightly on his heal, trying his best to act casual. “Possessive.” Miles raised an eyebrow, “And what do you mean by that, exactly?”
“Well shut up then, complaining about loose lips” She said with a giggle “well I don’t know if you’ll ever want to find that out, lovely. Even if it is until marriage.”
“Loose lips or tight lips, you keep those lips to yourself.” Miles teases lightly at the girl, his eyes darting down at her nicely tinted lips as he spoke before his brown eyes darted back to her eyes. “Marriage is too mainstream for me, so don’t you worry.”
“Those are massive accusations. I’m quite offended. Are you saying that I’d be to blame for you and your girlfriend breaking up? I’ve never been called a homewrecker before.”
“Lucky for you, I don’t have a girlfriend. So I guess we’ll never know what you’re capable of until you prove it.” Miles smirked, “But a fish ins’t exactly a marriage.”
“God, Miles. Why did you even appease then?” She asked with a teasing grin mimicking his accent. “Well keep it quiet then. If you can’t keep a fish quiet, then I fear for your other activities.”
“If My fish gets taken away I’m gonna assume you told. And remember, Jacobs, loose lips sink ships.”
“c’mon now, what could possibly go wrong with a fish? And it’s not like the fish is going to chew up the furniture. I’m sure they won’t mind.”
“I can here the school directors posh voice already: “The issue isn’t the fish. The issue is appeasement. One kid gets a fish, the next wants a dog, soon there will be a hoard of students asking me to bend the rules for them and I simply cannot have it!” Miles mocked him in his best american accent.

“ oh lord, check the tank ? ”
“I did, no sign of any food so I sprinkled some more in. But then I read online that you can overfeed them too, so I’m worried I gave him too much. Also, I wouldn’t call it a tank or anything. It’s more like... an empty liquor bottle. But don’t worry, I rinsed it out very thoroughly.”

“ how would that be a bad idea ? ”
“Well, for starters, we already managed to forget who’s turn it is to feed the little guy.”
I don’t think they’ll care very much since it’s just a fish, at least it’s not a dog.
We would have preferred a dog, but that kind of commitment just isn’t worth it at this time. Hell, we can’t even commit to a relationship, imagine owning a dog.
