Summary: Byleth is an assassin sent to kill Grand Duke Rufus disguised as a noble lady, and in the midst of all, she falls for Prince Dimitri.

In her hands, she clutched a note.

And wrapped in that note, with its thorns and leaves plucked off, was a blue rose.

A clever trick, for Byleth knew that a blue rose was impossible to attain in nature. She was not so naïve as to think that a blue as royal and vibrant as this was not artificial. In fact, she had orchestrated the gesture herself. Even obscured by the sweet scent of a rose, there was no mistaking the pungent, earthy smell of indigo dye extracted from woad sucked through the flower’s stem. Woad, a flowering plant that oft sprouted from impractical, disrupted soil.

An impossible rose—a mystery, a wish to have the impossible. The stench of dyer’s woad—enduring persistence.

A language that only she and Dimitri seemed to understand, transferred through the words only flowers could speak when the world asked them to hide.

Still, in the light of Castle Blaiddyd’s flickering sconces, she read the note she had written one last time.

Dimitri,

If your duties leave you a single hour that belongs only to yourself, come to the unused guest suite in the western wing when the castle is focused on the peak of the queen’s fleeting bloom.

The servants have long forgotten the room, and I have borrowed that kindness from them for one evening.

You once asked me if there would ever come a day when we could stand together in the open, with nothing left to hide between us. I have carried those words with me ever since.

Come, and allow me to give you an answer worth remembering.

Dude... I have been holding this in for months. The rage the indignation at this development. Because I brought merch back in January 2026 and noticed the element symbols were off—I thought I'd brought unlicensed merch and be ripped off.

And then when the movie got leaked I had an anonymous concerned atla fan rant to me about the removal of the Chinese writing system in the film. And I suspected I wasn't ripped off and the merch was licensed... Just with the new Avatarian element symbols instead.

But I was still hoping perhaps that the text was place holder in the leaked version. but I was foolish to hope.

I have no words. I'm just so disappointed.

WHY would they do this

They had an actual calligraphy specialist and a whole anthropology department that helped create this series. If this was some misguided attempt at avoiding cultural appropriation, they actually made it WORSE by erasing years of actively respecting the cultures they were inspired from.
