as a canadian living in the uk, the effect of heated rivalry and the increased attention hockey has received is very funny in practice.

most people here are used to soccer/football, which takes place on a big field and is heavily regulated against fights. so when you show them a theoretically similar game to soccer/football (goal-scoring, complex ball/puck handling, goal-keepers), but on a smaller field, on skates, and with fighting, i can only describe it as giving a victorian child a dorito.
