I do understand it’s misogyny on capcom’s part but I will forever be interested in why Mia Winters, a woman skilled and capable enough to work as a bioterrorist or work for bioterrorist, would then give up whatever ambitions she had to be a wife and mother. I understand on some level she can’t be a bioterrorist after re7 and the bsaa is helping her and Ethan but Ethan has a job. Ethan got training. Mia already had it. Mia doesn’t have a job.
It would be interesting if Mia purposefully gave it up though out of a sense of guilt and felt that following in these traditional roles and paths was a way to cope and rectify what she did and what happened to Ethan. Like in some sense, it feels like a punishment which is INTERESTING!!!!!!!
I think if capcom would've actually focused on her story as a character, especially in 8, there could've been interesting commentary about a woman "falling into the roles" of what she is expected to do.
I'm like half-awake so forgive my poor writing, but much of 7 centers on Mia's autonomy being stripped away in being forced to be Eveline's mother and serve that role. Both 7&8 focus a lot of the corruption/perversion of family and its dynamics, and I've always read Mia and Eveline's relationship through a more metaphorical eye. Many women are forced by cultures of strong conservatism into the role of being a mother, because that is what she "owes" the world and that is her purpose. As such, many women take this pain out on their daughters, or function in a way that teaches their daughters to behave just as erratically or struggle to express love that isn't laced with harm towards themselves or others. Now look at Evie, who is directly stated I believe to desire a family, to want to love, but to struggle doing so because of the environment she was raised in.
Tying this back into 8 and Mia becoming a mother, another reason for having a baby is an attempt to fix something. Her and Ethan had been through life altering trauma, and were effectively attached at the hip as a result of it. Many married couples have kids out of a sort've cultural habit, because after you get married there's this unspoken expectation. Maybe in a desire for things to feel normal again, she weds herself to this role to have some level of autonomy and self again. Having a kid simply because it was something people did, and that through that she would feel like a person again, too. I don't mean in the sense that she doesn't love or care for Rosemary, but the idea that what sparked her birth was simply Mia wanting to feel at ease and giving into a worldly expectation out of some belief that it would right things.
TLDR; Mia falling into roles most women are expected to and the consequences/motivations behind doing such as meta-commentary on the harms of traditionalism. This is like a whole lot of stretching and just fanon theory crafting fodder, but if Capcom weren't cowards having a woman symbolize the complexity of motherhood with a focus on her and the way social/familial expectations can impact her relationships with others and herself would've been really cool and hip.
