Whose Scholar Kuwgi? The up-coming Rapper from Atlanta.
How did you get the name SchoIar?
got the 1st half of my name "Scholar" really from growing up in a household full of people who were educated. I was always smart and did well in school and valued education. Scholar, in the way it relates to me, means someone who mostly has knowledge of self. A wise person.
When did you decide you wanted to make music?
I remember being in elementary school saying I wanted to be a rapper. Everyday after school I would sneak and watch BETs Rap City in the basement. I remember being in the library in the 5th grade, me and my friends were playing and said lets make a rap group called Rap City Kids and thats when the enlightenment initially happened, Hahahaa!!
Whose some of your greatest influences?
My greatest influences would have to be OutKast, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott... uhhhh... and anything my mom was listening to, so James Brown, Luther Vandross, Neo-Soul as a whole and the radio in the 90s and early 2000s.
What do you bring to the table in a era filled with rising stars each day?
I think I bring passion and compassion to the table. I would like to think I'm free to express myself however and to let people know how I go through the same things they do.
Also I want to bring back the 90s in terms of being an individual and experimenting with sound and music as well.
How does being from Atlanta influence your sound?
In every aspect of my being Atlanta has influenced me. On one side you have the hood, street, southside of Scholar Kuwgi. On the other is like Lil' 5 Points or The West End where the free-spirited are selling crystals and shea butter listening to Neo-Soul selling their art on the corner or reciting poetry at the cafe. “Heheee”, I dont know, that's just the dichotomy of being me I guess. All of Atlanta is me, but all of Atlanta comes from all over the world

ABRA (singer/songwriter) ~
How did you start making music? I was writing my own songs, doing covers of rap songs on the guitar in the summer of 2007. I didn’t think I had a future in it. I just really enjoyed doing it.
When did you start taking it seriously? It would soften the blows from things that didn’t work out in real life. I had just broken up with my boyfriend and I was like, “Fuck this. I’m about to be great.” I came out of the relationship after a lot of self-examination. I didn’t think of myself doing anything great in life. I just wanted to do something that mattered.
You used the Internet to get your music out, but do you spend a lot of time online in your personal life these days?
I don’t like how much time I spend on it. If I wanted to get rid of my phone, I couldn’t do that. If I just wanted to take calls from people who aren’t on Twitter, I couldn’t do that. My brand, as an artist, would suffer. I have to engage, which sucks for someone like me. I’m an escapist. I need to go and be able to be in a completely different environment for me to maintain the creative mindspace that I want. I can’t do that sometimes.

Ace Tee's silky voice takes us straight back to the 1990s. Released at the very end of last year, "Bist Du Down?" (German for "Are You Down?") has made ears perk up internationally in recent weeks. The track boasts a style reminiscent of artists who left us too early — Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes from TLC and Aaliyah — and a lively verse from hip-hop artist Kwam.e. "There are a lot of great artists in Germany right now, but the vibe is a bit dark and we are known mainly for Trap music," Ace Tee told Vogue. "I want to put R&B on the map here and create my own sound."
The music video for "Bist Du Down?" was filmed under train tracks in Hamburg and depicts youth hanging out in fashionable streetwear — baggy jeans, door-knocker earrings — against a graffiti backdrop. It's a visual that truly captures the soul of the era when R&B became mainstream, embodying how music has connected the black diaspora across generations and borders.-JESSICA DIAZ-HURTADOT
