As I’m sure you’ve known, I’ve had access to your tumblr. How that came to be isn’t important. What is important is that I say my final goodbye to you, the life we once shared and our dear friend Taya. I want you to be unbelievably happy. I also want to be 100% honest about everything. There was a point about halfway into our relationship that I just didn’t love you anymore. You were familiar and my best friend. I didn’t handle anything in the correct manner and that’s ALL on me. I don’t want to speak to you and this is not me reaching out. This is me getting everything off of my chest. I just want you to know you blessed me with a lot of lessons and growth in my life. And i will be forever grateful for all you did for me. Just remember a few things for me; 1. No cry no die.

I miss the 2000s because there were so many fashion trends and moments when it was encouraged to look like a hot-ass mess. The Instagram age is this weird era of control and perfection and “eyebrows on fleek” blah blah like I miss when everyone walked around with last night’s eyeliner still on while wearing 25 stupid accessories at once dressed like you slept in trash or whatever.

when ur in love w someone its important to let them know… like dont jus think “were dating so they probably know” bcs u never know someones insecurities n if maybe they dont know… but also its important that, if u feel unloved, u communicate, n if u cant outright ask “do u still love me” u could ask for smaller forms of affection, a hug, anything… like it is so so so important to communicate in a relationship bcs it might turn very unpleasant for all ppl involved if theres miscommunication/lack of communication

3things pt.1

busy mama. busy professional life. little sleep. yada yada yada. here are 3 things i’m finding time to love right now.

1. eat // homemade bread: my wife has been making this bread recipe for the last few weeks. it’s amazing. she says it’s easy & is adding balance to her life as she wrangles a 4 month old all day. we enjoy with avocado, or plain butter, or peanut butter & honey in the morning.

2. listen // ‘how i built this’ (NPR): listening to this podcast on my commute to/from work. founders of companies we all know (spanx, whole foods, patagonia) talk candidly about launching their company. super inspiring. i’m letting it wash over me & inspire the deep-seated entrepreneurial itch within.

3. read // ‘bird by bird’ (anne lamott): this is like a hug for my soul. taking things a little bit at a time: critical message as a new mama. also has me rethinking some dream endeavors i’ve yet to start. bird by bird, we are all unstoppable. plus, it’s easy to read in small chunks, which is necessary with a restless infant.

today: my wife + i celebrated our wedding anniversary in 3 days: our son turns 5 months old

we are legally married. we have a child. we are both listed on his birth certificate. i openly use the term ‘wife’ in corporate america + our daily life. i can’t believe how lucky i am. 

my heart splits wide open that i get to live this wild, full life. to be alive in this moment, this inflection point - to have all these things that never felt possible when i was growing up, & still, to be close enough to history to know that we stand on the shoulders of giants who came before us. 

there is so much more work to be done. the most vulnerable of our community is under attack regularly, & we must continue the good fight. i also have an obligation to live out loud the joyful life i’ve been granted in honor of those who fought for my rights. and damn it, this life is beautiful. 

i am the daughter of the queer community who refused to go quietly into the night.
