“She’s So High” was released as a single from Tal Bachman’s 1999 self-titled album. The single was released to radio on February 13, 1999, and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Trivia note: Tal is the son of Randy Bachman, a founding member of both The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
I was almost 24 years old when “She’s So High” was released. I had no idea who Tal Bachman was, but this song grabbed me the very first time I heard it. It’s a very strong, yet catchy, pop rock song. I still enjoy this song all these years later, and it doesn’t sound dated to me at all.
The music video, however, is kind of odd. There are shots of Tal Bachman lip-syncing the song intercut with a storyline of a woman walking down the street. The woman starts out looking like a typical woman, but she quickly changes what she’s wearing. While the dress she’s wearing stays the same, she sprouts angel wings on her back and puts on an aviator hat and glasses. She walks down the street, carrying a pole. She steals balloons from a clown, gives the balloons to a little girl and takes the girl’s cup of water. Near the end of the video, she places the cup on the ground, goes tightrope walking on a power line, and then jumps toward the cup of water… surviving the fall and making a big splash. Ummm… okay. While I like this song a lot, the video doesn’t entirely work for me.
