Lonesome Tonight
Perched atop my bed, surrounded with blankets, pillows and books.
I can’t get you off my mind.
The way you touch my soul, the way you smell when I am inside your hug.
The way you look at me just before our lips touch.
And unfortunately, I am by myself.
My mind wanders, so does my heart.
It longs to be in your presence.
But here I am, and there you are, miles stretching in between us.
And I am lonesome tonight.
Flicker
She burns from the inside, it erupts from her soul.
The fire within, she cannot control.
But on the outside, she is icy cold.
Only a light from her eyes is what reveals what she holds.
Stinging, singeing, pain; no relief.
This wildfire inside is what has caused her this grief.
The inferno within her grows louder each day.
She suffers quietly while her body’s ablaze.
Who does she run to, where does she turn?
To ease this agonizing, tormenting burn.
Like gasoline and a match, she goes up in flames.
Only from the outside, a shell remains.
An ashy, tired, desolate exterior.
A poor soul, who couldn’t be wearier.
She sits in a corner, she’s fizzled away.
Her spirit in cinders, her eyes have gone grey.
Her remains in embers, of a black and orange hue.
Of once was a girl, who didn’t know, what a flicker could do.

To all of my female friends out there, here’s a helpful tip on how to get rid of period cramps! This is something my sports med professor taught me last semester and it works wonders. Get an ice pack or a ziploc bag full of ice and wrap that in a hand towel or a T-shirt (to separate the skin from the direct cold) and place that on your lower abdomen/pelvic area. Your uterus is already swollen and blood is rushing to it and out of it, causing pain. The cold causes vasoconstriction, which reduces the blood flow and swelling. It also causes the skin and deeper tissues to become numb. I highly recommend doing this over a heating pad! Hope this helps!
