“I usually do.”
“Can I give you any reasons to go back to earth?”
“Oops! Didn’t mean to get in your way.”
“You’ve got your head up in the air, haven’t you?”
“I’m sorry - we’re closed for the time being. The attack did quite a number on us, I’m afraid.”
“It’s okay, I just wanted to ask if you needed any help for repairs.”

“Bran thought about it. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave,' his father told him.” ― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
( april the thirteenth, 1979; diagon alley. before. )
“Sirius, run! We’re going to die if you don’t!”
They were, if they didn’t get near Ollivanders in half a second - werewolves could be dangerous when they had to wait. And Remus had waited far too long. They were supposed to meet him half one hour ago, yet time had been against James and Sirius. James’s broken clock, for instance, which kept telling them it was twenty minutes earlier before they had realized it wasn’t. Or Sirius’s door, which just couldn’t close. Or Sirius’s motorbike, which was nowhere to be seen. Since brooms were out of options, they had chosen Apparition - only to arrive in another place before realizing their appointment was elsewhere. Now, then, they were running in Diagon Alley as fast as they could in order to catch up with their friend - or friends. (They weren’t sure. They had invited Peter just two hours before, but received no response. It was probably due to the short notice, so they gave the matter no further attention.)
Before they could meet their destination - they were so, so close - a scream abruptely stopped their path. And another. And another. “They’re here!,” people were screaming, and running, and crying - chaos was everywhere.
“Padfoot!” He could swear he had seen his best friend just one minute earlier, in the corner of his eye - “Over here!” He was still there. Scared people surrounded them by all sides, but he was there. Still, it was madness. “Can’t they ever get a job? Or go to a vacation? I can pay the whole holiday, if that’s what they need!” He never would, but talking helped. There were so many screams, so many children. “What do we do?”
They had to help, to protect, to call the order. Remus. Remus was alone. He was perfectly capable to look after himself, but he was alone. “Moony’s still waiting for us!” What do we do? His mind was full of options. “People have to get off the streets.”

“You did?” Sirius asked and he couldn’t help the grin on his face. “Well, what did she say?”
“She didn’t.”
torva-black
“Tell me what?”
He took a deep breath, even if it wasn’t needed. All that was left, then, was a big smile. “I did it.”

“Mate, I’ve got to tell you something.”

“You don’t recognize the biggest day of your life, not until you’re right in the middle of it. The day you commit to something or someone. The day you get your heart broken. The day you meet your soul mate. The day you realize there’s not enough time because you wanna live forever.” —Grey’s Anatomy
( two weeks before, march the first of nineteen seventy-nine. )
People walk, people talk. There’s nothing more normal and common than walking in the middle of the street, just hanging out, while listening some chit-chat around one corner or the other. It’s perfectly fine and everybody is doing it, except someone isn’t. Nothing odd about that, it’s just one good-looking man sitting in a corner and reading, and reading (he’s probably waiting for someone or something) - until he isn’t anymore, and he’s smiling, and smiling, and running, all other things forgotten.
( three months and three weeks before, december the twenty-fourth. )
December was a nice month, the perfect month, to make promises and proposals - at least that was what they said. He totally didn’t, and wouldn’t for a long time. He had done all the planning, stressed his friends over and over about all the tiniest details, but when the moment had come all the trains going in the “Jily” (stupid Moony and his nicknames) came to a stop. It wasn’t like he had chickened out (he was not afraid to propose to Lily, nor to commit) - it just didn’t feel right. When he had opened his mouth the night before, about to kneel and speak, the only thing that had come out was “So, nice dinner, uh?”. Like he had ever thought about any food he was eating in the two seconds before finishing off the whole meal. It had seemed to him all to wrong and fixed and not his. He would not know if Lily’s face would have brightened up, or if they would have danced in the snow, or if she would have said yes. He wouldn’t, and in that moment, in front of the tiny little fire he had just lightened up, he didn’t care at all.
( two weeks before, march the first of nineteen seventy-nine. )
James Potter was running like his life depended on it, and perhaps it did. So he ran, and ran, and ran, until he found what he was looking for - who he was looking for, the tiny redhead with a blue hat who was in the middle of something (he should have known, perhaps he did, but that didn’t matter in that moment), until the “James, what are yo-” was stopped with a kiss. “You’re the light. You always have been, and always will be.”
In the streets, as walkers walked by, a book remained under a tree, still opened on a page with a quote underlined despite the wind, as if neither nature wanted to interfere.
“She burned too bright for this world.”
“I’ve finally come to the conclusion that couldron cakes are indeed better than pumpkin pasties, and you will not convince me otherwise.”
“What? Have you gone mad? There’s no way anything except mints is better than pumpkin pasties - unless you’re making it, of course, dear.”

“I can’t. I need to look after Klara and I can’t do that if I can’t even get out of bed.”
“I can look after her for a bit, you know. Or help you out. Lily could - if you don’t trust me for this matters. Klara and Harry could be buddies.”
“I– I can hardly believe you just said that…”
“What, sex? It’s not swearing, you know.”

“My house is great. I love my house. It’s just the whole sitting around doing nothing that I don’t like.”
“We could clean the whole place up.”

“If I stop I’m going to fall apart, James.”
“It’s okay to fall apart.”

“That’s rubbish, princesses can be heroes too. Can’t they Klara?” Marlene said, her daughter giving an affirmative nod.
“Which role should princes take, then?”
shadowxflower
“I’m not exactly Marlene’s favorite person…” Anthea said, setting Ambrette in a bassinet and picked Oliver up out of another. “So I don’t think she’s even in the slightest bit worried about me.” She sighed, bouncing Oliver on her hip, “Very well. You can stay. Just don’t wake up my babies.”
“I still don’t get what’s wrong between you two.” He frowned. “Thanks. I won’t. I’m the best baby-person.”
shadowxflower
“Very funny, James.” Anthea said, “But before you crash on my couch, why did Marlene send you?”
“I could come up with a really good excuse, right now, or distract you by telling you how worried everyone is and how everyone cares for you -- but I’ll just tell you the truth. She and Lily had something to do and didn’t want me to sneak in and out. Now, I deserve your couch. Your baby can sleep with me. That’s fine.”
rosiethorburn
“Because if I give in and go home they won’t let me back till this baby is out of me.”
“That wouldn’t be too bad, would it? You could enjoy the house, blankets, hot chocolates... Did I mention the house? Because your home is great. You should check upon it from time to time.”
