the nickname shocked him, not many seemed brave enough to use it. he couldn’t deny there was something curious about her, something he couldn’t place. the unwarranted kindness left him weary of her as he slowly takes a seat. “why are you so interested?” he muses, an eyebrow raised at her curiously. “i.. guess i write a bit.” he shrugs, now bewildered as to why he’d admit such a thing.
"do you??” she asked. the question was eager, maybe a little too eager, but ivy couldn’t have been bothered to care about that, pouncing on the offered tidbit like a hungry stray. “what do you write about?” she was full of questions, and it took effort - effort she actually expended, that’s right folks, she tried her best here - to smother most of them, swallowing the urge to blurt out queries faster than they could be answered. “do you write stories? poetry? epic poetry? thtat could be very cool, are you bringing that back?”
sorry if it seems like i want attention i just want attention
isn’t that IVY WILLIAMS? yeah that is her, sitting there at the HUFFLEPUFF table with those other SEVENTH years and i think i heard sybill saying they look like SARAH HYLAND… whoever that is! when she looks into her crystal ball she sees a handful of glitter being released into the air, a tiny warrior wielding a bat and a dangerous smile, laughter that makes your belly ache and tears you can’t wipe away fast enough to save your mascara, a family with many branches - every one of them with something to scream about, a trio in yellow tucked into the corner of the room surveying their kingdom, a pair of girls so close that even death couldn’t separate them - and she tried, a dangerously wobbly pile of vinyl records, sundresses and stilettos, a can do attitude, a shoulder to lean on, and a heart large enough to hold the world. anyway i’ve heard they’re pretty SHARP, SWEET and VIBRANT. apparently they’re a HALFBLOOD but i;m sure that’s not related --

brows furrow at the words, certainly a chatty one he had found himself stuck with. “why me? i mean, what’s in it for you?” never a good deed without a motive, he’d learnt that quickly. “not a big fan of sports.” green eyes linger on the seat beside her as he prods at her kindness, he didn’t deserve it, so why willingly engage in such fake pleasantries?
he looks so..mistrustful of her, but ivy decides not to take it personally, waving off his question with her hand. “pah, cupcakes don’t come with strings attached. they’ll be here if you change your mind.” but even his lack of interest in quidditch talk doesn’t dissuade her, the badger captain determined to get something resembling a smile out of him. “you don’t like sports, you don’t like free cupcakes... tell me, vince, what do you like?”
alice didn’t have time to get her get her bearings properly , didn’t have time to work out what had happened . one second she’d been leaning against a building with ivy ; watching the fireworks and laughing at lovesick couples , and the next she was decidedly not leaning against a wall . there’d been the sound of rubble falling and screaming from all directions , and through it all alice could make out a snap and a shrill shriek she would only later realise came from her . ivy . alice’s thoughts immediately jumped to her cousin . where had ivy got to ? her left wrist was useless , even attempting to retrieve her wand from her pocket made her wince , an intake of breath so sharp it was as if a knife was cutting at her chest . “ ivy ! where are you ? ” yelling hurt , but alice knew the pain would be nothing next to not finding her cousin and dearest friend . “ ivy ! ” she was getting desperate . reaching for her wand with her right hand instead ( thank merlin she merely had a preference for dueling with her left ) , she brandished it in front of her ; eyes scanning through the debris and devastation , through the fleeing students and … and the assailants . alice flung a plan together in a moment ; find ivy , get ivy to help turn her scarf into a sling , and send the bastards back where they came from .
@ivy-williamss
she wasn’t prepared for any of this, never saw it coming - and as she fell (screaming, naturally) backwards with the crumpling building, ivy didn’t get a moment to think it through either, scrambling to haul herself out of the way of falling debris. It’s a mess, and she’s a mess, and she’s fighting tears as she attempts to find her way out of it. she’d heard alice cry out when everything went to shit, and she can hear her now - thank god, gods, plural, every god, thank them, and thank merlin, too, and helga, because if alice is shouting for her then she is still breathing, and if alice is breathing, and ivy is only barely almost crying, then they still have a shot at making it out of this- and for the quickest moment, as bad a moment as it is to get distracted, she’s glad that alice convinced her she should wear boots tonight, even if she couldn’t convince her not to wear the dress, because as dirty and tattered and practically indecent as she already is, attempting to navigate this disaster would have been impossible in her heels. “i’m here!” she shouts back, ‘i’m here! alice! alice!”. it’s when she finally finds an opening to emerge from, pausing only long enough to pull her wand from her boot, that she sees her, ivy letting out something between an anguished and relieved wail, a few feet away, wand out and at the ready and runs for her, rubble-hopping as best as she can. “are you okay?? what happened? what’s happening? why is this happening?? why are you right handed??”
"Cupcake?” she asked, offering up the tray from her place at the Hufflepuff table, sliding over to make room for the newcomer. Hidden away in her boots, the girl’s toes are crossed, Ivy silently praying she won’t be asked for the hundredth time about her experience during the skirmish of sorts, all the while knowing that her and Alice’s scuffle with the Death Eaters is something people have been talking about, but her smile is bright and endearing, and she’s hoping they’ll be tempted to stay for a softer chat. “We were just talking about how it’ll be nice to have Quidditch to focus on again, soon. Any interest?”

It was no secret why Benjy was so frequently the object of Ivy’s ire, and he had no real objective, it was all justified after all. However, in this case he wasn’t completely sure why her reaction to seeing him had been so vitriolic, after all his presence here had nothing to do with Theo. Still, no matter what it was that had pissed her off Benjy had the good sense to back up as she advanced, “I’m here with Eric,” It would probably further irritate her for him to spell out the actual reason (though she could surely figure it out), “I’m sorry. I swear I’m not–I didn’t even know he would be here,” And that hadn’t been a lie, he had no idea that Theo would be present, let alone with his family.
As drunk as she was, as determined as she was...her main priority was making sure things went smoothly, and she realized as he reversed himself, that she needed to slam the brakes - and fast. He really didn’t know what she was talking about. “I’m sorry,” she said quickly, holding up her hands in surrender. She continued to move closer to Benjy, this time much more calmly. “It’s just.. I wasn’t expecting to see you, and I.. I’m sorry, alright? It’s not you, it’s really not, Benjy, you have to know that, please know that.. I know sometimes I seem like I just hate you to hate you, like it’s a sport or something, but I don’t, alright?” Ivy paused, sighing as she dropped her hands. These parties were hard, even for her - it was hard to be a halfblood shootoff from a pureblood line, but tonight, she just wanted someone she loved to win. Just once, one of her people deserved to get their way. “It’s just.. tonight.. he is here, we’re here together, actually. I’m his girlfriend, too, in case that comes up. But it’s..it’s his family, Benjy. They invited him tonight, asked him to come with them, as one of them. He wants this so badly. I just want things to go well for him. For once, I want things to work out the way he wants them to. We had a plan, and...and...you being here..I wasn’t expecting it, and Elsie, she’s..." Ivy trailed off, letting out a steady breath as she tried to just...readjust. “I’m a little..out of sorts at the moment. I shouldn’t have pounced on you like that, it wasn’t fair. You didn’t actually do anything. Think you can forgive me, just this once?”

Theo could still feel the tears on his cheeks, clinging to his eyelashes. In fact, some of his hair was tickling his temples where it had become damp and stuck to his skin. He knew immediately who he needed to tell, who he needed to show the letter too. He held it in his hand, carefully folded as though he still wasn’t quite sure it was real. He hurried down to the common room, taking two steps at a time, sniffling slightly as he struggled to regain his composure. Merlin, he wanted the room to be empty, he wanted Ivy to be sitting alone. If she had company, he may just have to drag her to his dorm, not wanting to be so emotional in view of others. He worked so hard to convince everybody he was okay. And he was okay, wasn’t he? Usually… “Ivy-” He called, taking the final step and entering the room. “Ivy? Please tell me you’re here.” @ivy-williamss
Ivy was so excited to be going home in a few days - it was going to be good to be home, to be in Manchester again, and it was gonna be good for Theo, too, she was sure of it. She hated the thought of leaving her friend behind in the castle when everyone went home, this year..everyone was going to have a good Christmas. She was determined - so determined, actually, that she was in the process of hiding cokie bundles in the coat pockets of their housemates. So, naturally, when she heard Theo calling her name, she had a smile on her face as she turned to see him coming into the room. “Yeah, right here, why? Is everything okay? You still excited? Oh, no, please don’t tell me you changed your mind.”
His eyes followed the form of the other as they disappeared back into the crowd, while he remained for another few moments in the hallway, a little more tucked away than the middle of the main room. When he had determined enough time had passed to assuage any suspicion he took a step out, taking another look around. Up until this point he had been trying to avoid his own classmates, they could buy from him any time, and there was always a chance they might let it slip to someone that absolutely did not belong there. Unfortunately he hadn’t done quite as good a job as he had hoped because yes, they definitely saw him.
“Heyyy,” He greeted, “Hey fancy seeing you here, eh?”
She was drunk, yes, and she was lost, yes, that was true, too, but she knew she wasn’t drunk enough to see Benjy Fenwick standing in front of her if he wasn’t really there. “Are you kidding me???” she hissed at him, advancing on him as she did. What was he doing here? Theo was here, with his family. Benjy could not be here right now, that was the last thing anyone needed. “What are you doing here?? Benjy Fenwick I could just strangle you!” she couldn’t shout at him, not properly, not like she wanted to, anyways, but she was nothing if not determined to protect every inch of Theo’s good evening. “You cannot be here, Benjy, what the hell? What do you think you’re doing? You’re going to ruin everything!”
“Oh hi! I wasn’t expecting to see you here.” Amelia grinned, carefully placing down the small trinket she’d been inspecting. “Sorry, I’ve just been so caught up in everything. I mean, I know they do these sales every year, but I feel like they’ve really gone all out this time, haven’t they?”
“Well, if anyone asks...you didn’t see me. I’m supposed to be in Manchester, but I just.....Needed to get away for a little bit,” Ivy admitted. Her parents, her mother, at least, could understand her need for escape - but she didn’t have much time, it wasn’t fair to leave Theo “alone” in that disaster. “I wanted to grab a few things before they all got snagged. Aren’t these cute??” she asked, grinning as she held up a selection of dresses - each of them too short, too bright, and too loud for the season, and yet perfect for Ivy. “I have to agree, though, it’s definitely better this year than any other”
Elsie may have had a bit of wine. Okay, scratch that, far too much wine. But who could blame her? She never really felt at home during these events to begin with, being both a halfblood and, well, adopted. But this year? On top of that? Sybill was here with, him, and her migranes were just getting worse and worse, and honestly she just couldn’t be doing with it anymore. Besides, this was the one time a year where she didn’t feel like people were constantly looking over her shoulder, so she could probably get away with it, right?
Apparently not.
“Wh-” Hic “-at?”
The whole holiday, so far, had been stressful. Ivy’d felt bad for all the fighting she’d subjected Theo to, but Theo’s holiday seemed to be looking up - Ivy as thrilled as he was to discover his parents had wanted him to attend with them this evening. It was hard enough to be here tonight, for him...for her, and, for Elsie, she was sure...She was making the best of it, though, trying to, anyways, as she wandered the home of the Blacks, lost in the sea of people - and it didn’t help that even in heels she couldn’t really see where she was going. Everyone was too tall, and she was far too drunk. The only reason Ivy wasn’t staggering, she knew, was because of the charms on her shoes - every party girl’s best friend, those charms - but when she spotted her cousin her heart sank into her heels, and she grabbed two glasses from a passing waiter’s tray - “wait, no, hang on, help me, i’m drunk, please, and i’m pretty, so you have to, you’re legally obligated. i need these to be water, not wine. reverse jesus me, here, mate, help me. oh my god thank you so much, i love you, you’re beautiful, i’ll never forget you” - holding them as carefully as she could as she joined Elsie.
“I love you,” was all she said at first, leaning her heavy head onto her cousin’s shoulder. “I brought water. We have to drink it so we don’t die, okay?”
