Right. Of course the lab rats had to be involved! Why didn’t he think about it before? He’d discuss this mess with mess with Frank later, the first time the idiot did something productive and actual advance for science and he decides to make this weird… copy of himself. Who spoke and acted like him…

Jack shook his head and stepped closer to his desk. Nothing could impress him now, not after Zero Matter, those Russian Psychos, Project Rebirth, frozen lakes in California and the Red Skull, but he’d be lying if he didn’t think this didn’t scare him.

“You should go congratulate your friends in the lab this is some kind of impressive job.” Chief said giving his double a better look. “But you should have had tried with a Steve Rogers double if you want Carter to come back… or maybe try with Sousa.” to break his face for stealing my girl and don’t feel guilty about it… he completed in his mind. “She wouldn’t ask for more vacations— Impressive, very impressive. What are you made of? Wax?”

“My god, is this what I sound like? I owe Sousa an apology- no wonder he always sounds pissy with his comebacks.” He stands from his chair to get a better look as well, looking for something to give away that the man in front of him is a fake. No dice. “Well, whatever was used to make all of this-” A vague gesture to the reproduction. “-it’s pretty convincing. Of course, that you guys studied me enough to make something like this is...unsettling. Oh, and drop the ‘which one of us is real’ act. You’ve already showed that it’s impressive work, no need to try and make me have some mental crisis. Good work. Now, start working on a way to make this all useful for agents in the field.” Jack straightens his posture and bends back some, trying to crack his back. Damn, sleeping at his desk doesn’t usually make him ache this much.

Howard frowned, and opened the door further to let Jack inside. “Steal my inventions once, shame on me. Steal my inventions again after they’ve been locked in a supposedly secure government agency lab, and now I’m just starting to get annoyed.” He led Jack into the living room, and crossed to the bar to pour himself a drink. “What did they take this time?”

“It’s not your stuff, genius; it’s ours. This is me having the decency to question a you personally instead of dragging you down to the office to be interrogated. You’re not high on the list, but you’re still on it so I’m just getting this out of the way.” A drink hasn’t been offered to him, so he just stands by the entryway, leaning against the doorway with his hat in his hand.
