There’s a different kind of tragedy in the fact that Kevin Day was loved and wanted by both his parents and still ended up with a terrible life. Most of the other characters in the series were doomed from the start, their parents awful or neglectful or somewhere in between. Kevin could’ve had it all but still ended up perfect Fox material.

Uh, I think even after he's off his meds, Andrew still has to convince himself that Neil is real, not a hallucination, or a pipe dream, not dead, or missing.

It's a silent battle he has with himself for many years, it lingers even in older age.

He just has to stare at Neil extra long and really make sure he knows every detail about him by memory, has to make sure nothing changes.

Uh, do you think Andrew ever remembers hearing Neil's phone buzzing, but only after his 19th birthday.

Sometimes, when he and Neil are having a quiet moment — maybe Neil's asleep, maybe they're eating ice cream, maybe they're on the roof — he'll remember hearing Neil's phone buzz, he'll remember assuming that it was just Nicky or one of the upperclassmen.

He wonders how many of those notifications he heard were the days of Neil's life counting down.

He wonders how many chances he had to keep it from happening, how many chances he had to protect him, all the chances he missed because he was too caught up in their fleeting moments with each other.

He just kisses Neil a little harder those times, holds him tighter, tries to remember and convince himself that Neil is ok, that Neil is real, and still with him.
