The Hook Up Culture Waste Effect
Tinder. Grinder. Oasis. To name a few. We are all familiar with the apps that now host, encourage and shape today's dating culture. As a previous user of them myself, I am all too familiar with the aftereffects of such disposable dating. Have you ever matched with someone, started talking, even potentially met - only to be forgotten about and discarded like last night's scraps. The nature of these dating apps is that it is simple, easy and noncommittal... However, I find that this is creating a disposable attitude toward human beings in general and a new attitude is being bred. An attitude that seeks to locate this idea of a 'perfect match'. Call me crazy but I am not partial to allowing someone into my life, for a fleeting interview, only to show them the exit door once their audition is over... I beleive these apps stunt any opportunity at organic growth by reminding both parties that you are, in effect, auditioning and that if you don't meet my ideals your removal is a simple click away.
