Infantry Officerās Sword (Pattern 1796)
Dated: 1796
Maker:Ā Rundell & Bridge (London firm of jewellers and goldsmiths formed by Philip Rundell and John Bridge)
This is a presentation sword given to Lieutenant Colonel Richard Lloyd, commander of the Goree Island Garrison, from his officers, in 1808.Ā The silver and brass gilt hilt has a knucklebow and shell guard and bears a crest, possibly of the Williamson family and may originate from a marriage between one Usher Philpott Williamson and Anne Lloyd, their son being Major-General Usher Williamson of the 22nd Regiment of Foot.Ā
Side notes:
Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Lloyd commanded the Goree Island Garrison, situated off Senegal, until 1808. His force helped protect British trade routes.
Slaves were shipped to America from Goree until the abolition of that trade in 1807.
After leaving Goree, Lloyd became commander of 2nd Battalion, The 84th (York and Lancaster) Regiment of Foot, and was killed at the Battle of Nivelle in France on 10 December 1813.

[ quietly lays down ] [ i guess i need to make a verses page or something b/c now rogue admiralās a thing too and i eNTIRELY blame/laud nabii for it ]
Heās been sitting here for about three hours, staring at the paperwork before him with nothing short of a dead expression and his chin propped up on one hand. This is the eighth timeĀ somebody has filed entirely redundant forms, and Garen is very close to simply throwing them out the nearest window. A quick check reveals that most of the files put before him are just as...whatās a more polite word. Redundant, again. Thatās a safe one to use.
With an exasperated sigh, he slowly leans forward until his forehead is pressed against the wood of his desk. What the hell is he supposed to do with all of this?Ā ...he couldĀ put that window to use, but he gets the feeling that would only get him in trouble.
[ a crownguard comparison ]
lux : goes places, meets people, does neat things
garen : is facedown quietly screaming into a pile of paperwork

[ that and heās smacked his head into so many doorframes b/c the crownguard house in particular is just not built for somebody that big ] [ at least the barracks and his office have much bigger doorways. he can avoid breaking his skull there. ]
[ b/c iāve been doing a fuckton of headcanons posts on my graves, hereās some for garen, on account of the fact that heās a nerd. ] [ i may have mentioned the dancing bit somewhere on this blog/i know iāve talked about it in skype but here it is, officially laid out now ]
His favorite flowers are Demacian poppies. Heād like to have a little pot of them in his office, but he has the opposite of a green thumb; heās more of a plant hospice worker than a gardener, much to his chagrin.
Garen does have a signet ring for House Crownguard--the center stone is carved lapis lazuli, and the ring itself doesnāt have too much adornment aside from the golden shields on each side of the shank. While itās very well-worn, itās pretty clear that Garen himself isnāt the one whoās had it on all that much. It doesnāt fit him exactly, but he hasnāt bothered getting it resized.
He learned ballet when he was somewhat older, more to help with his balance and poise than anything--it also had the added benefit of making him much more resistant to getting dizzy, which enabled the sword spinning bullshit seen today.
Aside from the ballet, Garen picked up an assortment of dances from growing up in the barracks in mixed company--the majority of what he knows is either folk dancing, looks dorky as anything, can hardly even be calledĀ dancing, or is varying degrees of highlyĀ inappropriate. As a result, he absolutely will not dance at any events more formal than parties in the company of his men.
Heās only been blackout drunk a total of twice. Both times resulted in disciplinary measures, although they were kept relatively hushed--as a result of these instances, he doesnāt go out drinking much anymore.
His usual volume of speaking is perhaps somewhat louder than most people would consider anĀ āinside voiceā. Heās used to yelling orders both on the field and in the training grounds, and heās quite good at making himself heard.
[ ballet garen is on my blog which means itās canon here ]

Ā Ā Ā DRAVEN whistled as if he were impressed.
āLooks like you can teach an old dog new tricks, after all! Darius told me it worked the last time he did it, ha ha ha!ā
Ā Ā Ā With a wide grin, DRAVEN continued.
āIām sure heāll be happy to hear youāve since caught on.ā
āThat was one ti--ā He cut himself off quickly, shooting the executioner a frustrated glare. Garen wasnāt about to give Draven any more opportunities than he had to, and heād be damned if he willingly handed the man any more ammunition to use in the meantime. āI see you Noxians donāt exactly learn anything new, being that youāre simply recycling old excuses for jokes. Did you have anything worthwhileĀ to say, or are youĀ done?Ā Iām inclined to say that youāve already reached the end of your wit, however, so I canāt say I expect much.ā
