[Thinking a lot about the AU where Iriya survives getting killed and runs off with that lion guy to start completely over with a new name and everything.]
{Like for a starter! Also, like... help me find other blogs to follow on here....}
What youâre lacking
Iriya is lacking 1) a real life 2) the ability to fly 3) fabulous.
âSince when is âfabulousâ a noun?â
Am I broken? Am I flawed? Do I deserve a shred of worth or am I just another fake, fucked up lost cause?
And am I human? Or am I something else? 'Cus I'm so scared and there's no one there to save me from the nightmare that I call myself
0-stormy-muses-0â:
âI didnâtâŠI didnât say that!â Uzume protests. âI never said I was better than anyone else! Thereâs lots more people who came from where I do that arenât monsters either!â âŠArenât there?
âYouâre putting words in my mouth! Iâm not looking down on anyone besides you because Thread Eyes says youâre a creep and jerk and aâŠaâŠâ
   ââŠa monster.â
He bites the inside of his cheek until he can taste blood. This is why itâs only Azako. Even someone who ought to know the pain of being called vile or a beast still insists that only some should be saved while the others can be left to rot in their own horrid filth. Damn, foolish hypocrite.
He swallows the blood and speaks again. âThereâs people who call your kin such things too. Whether or not they are doesnât matter. If you stick a certain word on something, you can treat it however you want. You claim you arenât like them, but everything about you now suggests otherwise.â
âAnd fine, you merely said you were âtryingâ to be better. I guess thatâs only doable if youâre willing to classify others as worse.â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
Silent again, but for another reason this time. A flush of angry red tints Uzumeâs cheeks at Iriyaâs latest words. âShut up. Who I amâŠmy bloodâŠit doesnât design me!â
âIâm not alone anymore! Thatâs what matters! I have friends who donât care where I came from!â
What an intriguing reaction. So much shame.
âSo you forget intentionally? Must be nice to be able to walk away from your past, to redefine who you are. How else can you pretend that no one else is still there? How else could you differentiate yourself from the ones you now scorn? Because youâre better than them now, right? Youâre high and mighty and ready to kick anyone you decide is too unworthy of life or love? You found a way to the other side of your own predicament. Youâre now the one looking down. Is that what you meant by âbetterâ?â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
Uzume considers his words for a while, looking to be thinking very hard. âWell, do you wanna change?â
âOr do you just wanna be right? The first choice is a lot harder than the second one. Maybe I did get lucky and you unlucky, Iâd probably be lots worse off if they didnât want to be my friends. But again; do you wanna change, or dâya just wanna be right?â
âTo my own heart, Iâm already right. I do what I want and say what I think. Itâs the only ârightâ I have. And donât pretend you always wanted to be better. Youâre powerful and a fool; it would have been easy for you to never kill a thing. But you did. And Iâm willing to bet there was a time you enjoyed it. After all, itâs the life you knew. All alone. You against anyone else. People of your heritage always know the feeling of scorn. Donât you?â
His hand shows signs of a tremble, and he clenches the fist tighter. Itâd be simple to leave the conversation, but as the only one heâs had in a while, heâs determined to keep it running.
âOr have you forgotten?â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
Okay, thatâs a good question, but he has counter answers!
âWell one, I have friends and you donât. Two, people like me and no one likes you. Three, I feel better about myself, I donât think you do. FâŠfive, I like what Iâm doing now, do you? UhhhhâŠsevâŠno wait, nine, I know Kuroha and Saiha are proud of me. Is anyone proud of you, Iriya? I just think youâre really creepy and kinda sad.â
âYou say those things like theyâre your own accomplishments. You really just got lucky.â He speaks every few words through gritted teeth, feeling the pressure around his heart rising and his urge to kill growing.
âThe people who found you while you were darkest accepted you. They decided you were worth bringing to their side. To make you their definition of better. When you looked sad, as you say I do now, you were comforted. When I appear the same, I get morally-grandstanding fools like you telling me itâs my own damn fault. Your decision to be better was circumstance, not nature-â
He pauses in order to breathe, to quell the fury in his gut. âTell me. What if those you ended up friendly with had instead decided you werenât worth more than the dirt in your hair? Do you really think youâd still have wanted to be what they say is âbetterâ?â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
Uzume comes to a sudden halt, then turns and glares at Iriya. Engaging is a really bad idea; everyone said so. But heâs not gonna let this guy get the last word!
âYeah, Iâve done a lot of bad stuff, not gonna try and say that I havenât. Difference between you and me is that I wanna be better. I wanna be a good person. Also I have friends and you donât.â
His hand tightens into a fist so tight his fingers feel cold from lack of circulation.
ââBetterâ you say? And how do you know that what youâre doing now is the âbetterâ thing? Because others told you? Following the beliefs of others is not what Iâd call âbetterâ. And you canât really say youâre good by those standards anyways, because when left to your own devices, you were a killer. That is your true nature. Hiding it does not make you âbetterâ. It makes you a fake.â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
Oh noâŠoh nooooooooo! He got the creepâs attention! Uzume groans and starts walking faster. Must lead AWAY form Utsuho!
âDonât really care. Go away you massive weirdo.â
âCome now, come now. You really think weâre so different?â Iriya picks up his pace, his smile decaying from genuine-appearing to rather sinister. âAnyone in the Itsuwaribito game knows who you are. Thereâs probably hundreds of orphans and widows whoâd cry at the sight of you.â
âYou call me weird, what does that make you?â
0-stormy-muses-0â:
   âUhhhhâŠ.no.â
   âCreep.â
Well, too bad. He responded so now he gets a chatty Iriya trailing him.
âDonât you know I know him better than anyone? Donât you know how much we have in common? Azako and I were always destined to meet. It was fate. I was born just for him, and him for me.â
âDo you wanna hear about him? About Azako?â
But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here
I don't care if it hurts I wanna have control I want a perfect body I want a perfect soul
demonmoonruiâ:
âI know Iâm probably a burden to you outside of helping you withâŠthis,â He motions to the bombs. âand fixing your clothes. But I really donât want to be left alone again. I donât want to go back to Natagumo and I donât know where else I could go.â
But it seems that Iriya isnât focused on that, so the spider demon stops talking and bites his lip. Judging by the sky, itâs going to be daylight soon, so he gets their cloaks out of the cart and puts his own on before bringing the other to Iriya.
âNever mind, forget I said anything.â
That wasnât quite a satisfactory ending to the conversation. Rui was far less a burden than he seems to think. And definitely less of one than the bandages Iriya now remembers managing. Iriya actually likes his company. It doesnât do any good to speak of such things, though, so he leaves it.
He grabs his cloak from Ruiâs hands. âLetâs get back to shelter and get a map of the wider area around here. When the sunâs down again, we can go whichever way we decide upon. Iâll carry the cart.â
demonmoonruiâ:
âI canât think of a better course of action.â Rui admits, stacking the bombs onto the little cart they stole a while back and take turns pulling. Heâs never done so much walking in his life, even after he first became a demon. His village was only a week away from Natagumo. Theyâve been at this for a year now; heâs seen more than he thought was possible out in the world.
Though now an unsettling thought comes to his mind. Iriya finally has a clue to his past, is one step closer to figuring out who he is and who may be important to him. What ifâŠwhat ifâŠ
âIriya-kunâŠâ Rui doesnât look at the other demon as he speaks. âWhen you find what youâre looking forâŠyouâre not going to abandon meâŠare you?â
He isnât sure he could take it if heâs left alone again.
âAbandon?â He folds his arms, entirely too calm. That wasnât something heâd been thinking about. The goal of reobtaining lost memories had been so much his focus that the details past it werenât worth looking into. And something was curious about the words Rui chose. Abandon? Surely being finished with the task holding them together would be freeing to him? Rui could go back to doing anything he wanted instead of following a maniac around. Wasnât that better?
âDonât worry about that.â Itâs sort of a non-answer, possibly meaning âdonât worry because I wonât,â or possibly just âstop thinking about it, I donât knowâ. Maybe something in between. âWe donât know whatâs going to happen when we find this man. Heâs the one who killed me, after all.â
demonmoonruiâ:
Rui does as heâs told, taking some of the bandages and using them to cover his nose and mouth from the slow to dissipate smoke. Itâs not ideal protection by any stretch of the imagination, but it works in a pinch. He goes back to picking up the unlit bombs and turns when Iriya speaks, hearing and unfamiliar note in his voice.
âAzakoâŠâ The name is completely unfamiliar with him. âWell, hopefully when we find this Azako you can stop blowing yourself up.â
âSo, how do we go about looking for Azako?â
âThatâs the question, isnât it?â He stretches, back making a rather terrible popping sound. Apparently his freshly-grown joints werenât ready for that. But if heâs in pain from the crack, Iriya doesnât show it.
âUnlike everything until now, we canât exactly make a plan. I have no starting point. At this point, he could be anywhere in Japan, or even outside of it.â Iriya canât remember exactly how long has past, but itâs been at least a year, enough time for quite a bit of travel, even for a human.
âBut staying in one place wonât do any good. How would you feel about simply.. traveling until we hear some sort of word on the matter?â Personally, he hates such a lax, wandering plan. But what else could possibly be done?
