Vandalism of the Karak temple: SC commission recommends 'exemplary punishment' for culprits

The Supreme Court's one-man commission on the rights of minorities submitted its report on the vandalism of the Karak temple on Monday. The report on the orders of the top court was prepared by Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Suddle. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed issued a suo motu notice on December 31 of people setting fire to a temple in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the day before. A comprehensive investigation into the vandalism at the temple was recommended by the commission. Both witnesses' statements should be registered and evidence obtained against the culprits. The key suspect in the case, Maulvi Sharif, incited people to violence, the report said. At the moment of division, the record of the temple land should also be looked into to ensure that the record has not been tampered with. To avoid the entry of 'suspicious persons' into the temple, the home department should take action. The report recommended that exemplary punishment should be given to offenders to avoid such events in the future. Ramesh Kumar and the chief secretary of the KP visited the temple. The position of the police is being investigated by the KP IG. The ownership of temple land should be relinquished by the KP government and auqaf department and steps should be taken to develop freshwater wells and gardens at the temple. Matric, intermediate classes to be resumed on January 18: Shafqat Mahmood

The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC), chaired by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood, has on Monday agreed to resume the matric and intermediate classes from January 18. The IPEMC took place via video link and was attended by ministers of education from all four provinces. Shafqat Mahmood held a press conference after chairing the meeting, along with Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health. Shafqat Mahmood declared, "In three steps, educational institutions will be reopened." Classes from one to eight will start on January 25 in phase two after matric and intermediate, while all higher education institutions including colleges and universities will reopen in phase three from February 1 onwards. From January 11, after the end of the winter holidays, online learning will be allowed. In May and June, board exams will be held. Student health protection has remained the primary concern of the government. Girl gang-raped by six men in Hasilpur, Punjab.

BAHAWALPUR: In yet another sexual assault incident in the country, a teenage girl was gang-raped on Sunday by six men in Punjab's Hasilpur Tehsil district of Bahawalpur. The unidentified men entered the house forcefully, according to the police, held family members of the house hostage at gunpoint, and gang-raped the girl. Meanwhile, on behalf of the girl's brother and conducting searches for the arrest of culprits, the police have registered a case against offenders. In October 2020, in Zahir Pir, Punjab City, Rahim Yar Khan District, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by more than seven men. The police told the media that more than seven men allegedly abducted and gang-raped a teenage girl, who later threw her on the road. Officials added that the incident took place near Abadpur police station in the Shaikh Wahan district. Several social media sites have been approached by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to block the Lady of Heaven film trailer.
