Happy Birthday Erwin Smith!!!
I don’t know what I could tell you about Erwin that already has been said before. At times like this, we could re-emphasize his many qualities: his wisdom, his intelligence, his sacrifice, his kindness, his strength, his perseverance and many more; but we already know all that.
So what else could we say about him? Erwin was not a perfect man, because of his whim after all he ended up losing his life, even though Levi warned him (we saw him in today’s chapter) if he had listened to Levi, right now he would be still alive and the manga events would probably be different.
But that’s what there is! Erwin was human, and these errors were precisely those that prove his humanity. The so-called “demon” or “monster” as everyone called him, was simply the mask that he had to use constantly, with the aim of fulfilling the expectations of all those who trusted him to save humanity.
Personally, his death affected me a lot, I still continue crying for it (today I cried during the chapter) but a few months after it happened, when at last we knew the truth of what was in their world, I sincerely appreciated that things went as they came out.
Not to mention that the decision Levi made was the greatest proof of what he feels for the commander. There is not the slightest doubt about it.
But today I don’t want to keep mouring about his death, but on the contrary, it is a day to rejoice in his life. Erwin was a wonderful man, a great commander, true to himself but responsible enough to put aside his personal motives for the greater good.
Erwin was never demotivated by defeats or criticism, even when the very humanity he was protecting turned against him. He always remained firm.
All this, and much more, make Erwin a worthy character to admire. A man who despite how hard life was for him, never gave up, a man who knew how to carry the burden of the deaths that he caused alone, always looking forward, without repenting. But at the same time, a man who never lost his own humanity, who did not let his heart harden given the circumstances in which he had to live. A man who could both show a hard and impassive countenance, as a tender and kindly expression; someone who could laugh and smile, even though life never smiled at him.
Erwin is a great character, an exceptional man; Today and the rest of the years that follow, let us continue celebrating his life, his valuable life that has taught and inspired us so much.
Happy birthday Erwin! And may you always stay alive in our hearts ♥
