A blog for art and illustration! New YouTube videos are being posted weekly as well, which I'll be posting updates about frequently. I hope to see you guys there! :D

Like, I see a lot of people quitting Instagram bc of their policy to feed art to the Meta AI, and I agree that it is not Cash Money of them to do that... but I am also not entirely sure how it changes anything, because doesn't literally *every* website populate Google? If so, doesn't Google's AI take that anyway, as well as any image AI that uses Google as a database? so most of them, from what I can tell...
Am I fundamentally misunderstanding how this works? I ask because most of the art I have seen here recently hasn't been glazed as far as I can tell visually, and while Tumblr isn't feeding images straight to AI the same way Instagram is, I am still worried for y'all. I kind of hope I AM just confused, because it would be fantastic to have places where I could upload unglazed works in their pure, unswirly form. I just thought I could Glaze my future works and upload them wherever I would usually upload, including Instagram because, well, their AI isn't any better at reading it than Dal-E as far as I'm aware. It is gonna be quite annoying though, because it takes upwards of an hour to glaze something to the Default strength, and I like uploading silly little doodles that only took like 5 minutes in and of themselves lol, so I'll have to be more picky about what I post...
Anyways, I am gonna start using Glaze on my art at the minimum, I tested it with an older work and it's not very noticeable. I'll drop the glazed piece here for anyone who has been curious about how it would affect their art visually and been too scared to try using it
the grass looks bad because of me, that's my fault for not knowing how to draw grass. The Glaze is that swirly triangular pattern that is most noticeable in the exact middle of the image, on the shorts and leg. It is virtually invisible on the face, which is the part I care most about anyway. So, while yes it would be an annoying affect if it were something really aggressively well-rendered, I've got very few issues with it for my more cartoony art style. It's the default amount of glaze, so not the highest tier of protection possible but enough.
I didn't really care about AI theft when it was still in its infancy, I still don't think it's the end of the world or anything like that, people enjoy art for the personal connection it has with its artist, and I like to think AI will never fully replicate that... not to mention that all of these AIs are in for a legal nightmare once someone sues for copyright infringement ... but, with how high quality the images are becoming and how thoroughly integrated it is into many of our browsers and websites, I still don't wish to help it any further if at all possible.
For anyone who wants to utilize this anti-AI Glaze, here's the link to downloads for Glaze
There is a browser version as well, though it requires an invite (automatically granted to anyone who doesn't use AI via email) I haven't tried that one yet, my computer is thankfully able to run the desktop version so I've had no need to get an invite.
If this is the first you're hearing about Glaze, I should also mention that there is a thing called Nightshade on this very same website. It does a very similar thing to Glaze, except for that it also gives AI models incorrect information when fed to it that, through a bunch of technical stuff that I don't understand, actually makes the AI worse than it was before. I've decided to just use the regular Glaze since, personally, my goal isn't to screw over the devs who made the AI, even if it's something I disagree with. I just don't want my work utilized, so I will Glaze it and move on. I can't really blame anyone who uses Nightshade though, just explaining why I don't.
I was also wondering if any of y'all have a contingency plan in the case of AI developing to the point where Glaze doesn't work anymore... like are we just gonna have to delete everything from the last however long we've been glazing or what? yike
I had so much fun participating in this collab with Idol Bandit and the Rin Fan Discord! Happy 6 Monthiversary, Prince!
If you're a Rin Penrose fan who wants her to see this collab, or even if you just like collabs in general, I'd truly appreciate it if you would check out the link (here) and give IdolBandit a like and comment saying that you enjoyed 🥰 A lot of love and time was put into this by the whole community, and I'm super excited about how it turned out!!!
Sometimes I just wanna shake some sense into the new year. Like this!
If this is at all relatable... maybe consider checking out the speedpaint?
Whether you do or don’t, HAPPY NEW YEAR! For real, I think it will be great!!! :D
Scrolling over my dash for my once-daily allowed glance at tumblr and I just wanna say something, because this apparently seems to not be clear: when someone on here says "REBLOG ART, LIKES DO NOTHING REBLOG IT" they don't mean you have to reblog every single thing you see. What they MEAN is that if you see a piece of art that you like, instead of just hitting the like button, you need to also reblog it, because that is what actually helps the creator reach more people.
No one wants or expects you to reblog every piece of art you see. That's not the point. What we're asking for is for those who see our art and enjoy it to reblog it rather than just liking it, because likes have literally no effect. Think of likes as more akin to bookmarking something.
I definitely get your point here, but what about when you see something, go “I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this art/post/etc., but it has themes that don’t go with my blog” whether that’s like, gore, or characters I don’t actually know anything about, or I don’t know what the writing says and don’t wanna reblog something super vulgar by mistake...
I’m an artist (have an alt account literally for it) and know how disheartening it can be to not get the engagement you want on a post. That said, I don’t think I could ever bring myself to be so entitled as to say “No, you engaged with my content wrong”
If you left a like on my art, then even if it has no algorithmic impact, it says to me that you took the time to tell *me* that you enjoyed it, and that’s enough. You could have just kept scrolling. I’m sure most people do. It means a lot that you took even a second to acknowledge it in that way. If you want to drop a reblog as well, that’s doubly splendid, and I appreciate it!
Saying that anyone who sees and genuinely enjoys your art must reblog it, like, ethically... Is even more of a ridiculous move than I thought initially. And while it's probably inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, it's also the embodiment of the entitlement my generation seems to feel, and I'm getting a wee bit tired of it.
It's like if you started holding up your art as people at your school((/work/college/whatever's applicable)) walked past. If you didn't know the people too well, while there might be a part you that might be offended, you'd ultimately be understanding if they didn't so much as give it a passing glance. That's just kinda how public spaces work, I suppose.
If it was someone you were fairly good friends with, perhaps it would sting a bit more if they didn't acknowledge it--but heck, even then, they're busy with their day and could have missed it entirely.
If anyone paused for even a moment to look at your work, smiling gently before continuing on wordlessly, you'd probably be pretty giddy. After all, at least they *saw* it. Perhaps this happens more often than you know, when you're looking the other way--or, in the Tumblr sense, because you literally cannot see it if they don't leave a note.
If any of them then decided not to walk past right away, but instead chose to come up to you and say, "Wow, that's really pretty! Keep up the good work," before continuing on their way, it would be absolutely thrilling. They actually *took time out of their day* to let you know that it meant something to them. That's spectacular! And that's what liking is, what commenting is, all the little things that don't necessarily feed the algorithm but *can* hopefully feed your desire to keep creating regardless.
If any one person then WAVED OVER THEIR FRIEND GROUP from across the hall, making a point to exclaim to them and anyone else who is within earshot, "No, seriously, LOOK at this cool thing y/n made!!!" ... Well, that's above and beyond what anyone would expect to happen in person, and it would probably be day making. Life changing, even.
But social media is like this, and while I know that Tumblr is meant to be basically the anti-social media of social medias... it still thrives off the same engagement serotonin as all the rest do. It's just formatted a bit differently.
Tumblr's loose algorithm seems to have gotten a lot of us thinking that the scenario where everyone gets called over to look at what you've made is the DEFAULT. The absolute bare minimum if you enjoy a piece. That's simply not how real life *works*, and if we could better process this for what it is, I think we would all be a lot happier. Every like would mean something, and every reblog doubly special!
Guess you'll have to click on the link below to find out what the heck is going on. Did I bite off more than I could chew with this somewhat-Amogus-related challenge?!?!
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Such a wonderful holiday calls for celebration! As a little Valentine’s Day gift to you all, a new video’s coming out later today! It’s not much, but hopefully it’s something fun to make a bright day even brighter :D
I’m going to be a bit late with today’s video, but regardless, it will be done! Here’s a sneak preview of the thumbnail.
That’s right, the series continues!
