I've been shooting with a 35mm exclusively as a test. I get it, I really do: the sharpness, the wide frames, the discipline. But I can't get over zooms.

Maybe that keeps me from being “great” one day, but I can't ignore how it feels to know a scene is within reach. With zooms, my eyes are always zapping through layers of concrete, light, distance, and people.

They make the city feel more alive, more available, more connected. Or at least they make it feel that way to me.

A prime lens asks too much commitment.

A zoom lets me follow curiosity before it disappears.
