Live Drawing by Shizuma Yoshinori for "Marginal Operation Exhibition" at pixiv Zingaro
Here is the second part of "Yoshinori Shizuma Illustration works of Marginal Operation" at pixiv Zingaro and Shizuma has demonstrated and drawn one of the main characters Jibril in maid costume.
It was an intercative talk event with the auther of Marginal Operation Yuuri Shibamura and the editor Moegi Hirabayashi, and Sizuma started drawing while they talk about the work.
He drew rough sketch, traced the lines and painted over the figure very precisely. All the audiences could see how he draw from the scratch, and he looked very relaxed as it is an natural thing to do.
He used SAI, the popular digital painting software, and traced lines on the rough sketch, and cleaned up the canvas.
He started painting after set the gray layer on the figure.

At last, it took only 1.5 hours to go through all this process. When the event is finished he printed and given the finished illustration with his autograph on it as special souvenir for everyone.
As according to what Yuuri Shibamura said about the reason he likes Shizuma’s drawing, is that Shizuma can draw female characters, people in general and weapons. The full interview will be issued on the Tokyo Pop Guide No.2.

Tokyo Pop Guide has appeared on "The Daily NNA Singapore & ASEAN Edition No. 05119" saying that Anime centric travel guide has been introduced at AFA.
Toyo Institute of Art and Design(Shinjuku Tokyo) has participated at AFA, as the vocational institute for Manga, Anime and Game creators, and they have brought their publication "Tokyo Pop Guide" for the 70th anniversary.
The vice director Daisuke Nakagome said that only 10% has accounted for a percentage of the international students. He wants to welcome more students from ASEAN countries in terms of opening Illustration schools in Asia in the future.

MADOGATARI EXHIBITION SHAFT 40th ANNIVERSARY
MADOGATARI EXHIBITION SHAFT 40th ANNIVERSARY that is held at 3331 Arts Chiyoda has finally launched and is ready to show the masterpieces. SHAFT has created many successful animation series including Monogatari Series, Nisekoi and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It is about 40 years of the footage of the animation company SHAFT which has continued to create innovative and sensational works in the animation history of Japan.
There are several areas with different concepts as they are divided in 7, which are SHAFT CHARACTER WELCOME TUNNEL, SYMBOL ZONE, MONOGATARI SERIES ZONE, KEY ANIMATION ZONE, PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA ZONE, SHAFT ARCHIVE ZONE and END CARD ZONE [MAP].
MONOGATARI SERIES ZONE, is the first to walk along the route, and there is a few monitors that screen some of the best and memorial scenes from the Monogatari series.
These precisely lined out key animation cuts are synchronized with each screens, and you can appreciate all the creations by the animators.
As you walk further the room of PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA ZONE appears in the bright and white room. There are also key animation lined beautifully on the walls, and the chandeliers with the colorful silhouette of the characters.
There is a short film by the director Akiyuki Shinbo that shows you the new concept of Madoka Magica. This should give you a hint of what could happen next but you can only know by seeing it!
On the side of the room there is the symbolic object of the original witch specially created for this exhibition by Gekidaninucurry, the creative team for all the witches, atmosphere and dimensions of the whole series.
All the original artworks are also hanged on the walls, too. It’s so interesting.
SHAFT ARCHIVE ZONE is the total clear and white room with a full of rare resources such as storyboards, character images, rough sketches and lots of drawings by pencils are exhibited. You will stop by and never want to move again.
After you see all the attractive artworks in each rooms, you can selfie your portrait with your favorite characters on the rooftop under the sunshine.
As conclusion, there are so many fans longing for this exhibition and are not just waiting for to see the whole masterpieces of the past, but we are desperate to know what SHAFT is going to do next. As SHAFT seems to show the new concept of Madoka Magica in the short film, we are already making a new hope once again.

Yoshinori Shizuma Illustration works of Marginal Operation at pixiv Zingaro
"Marginal Operation" is the first novel written by the game concept designer Yuuri Shibamura and the artworks are created by the illustrator Yoshinori Shizuma.
This exhibition is held at pixiv Zingaro, the collaborated art-space established by the artist Takashi Murakami and pixiv inc., the largest illustration SNS. We must say that it's a rare opportunity to see the character model sheets of "Marginal Operation", illustrations and even rough sketches drawn by Yoshinori Shizuma.
The story of "Marginal Operation" is about a man named Arata who has been a NEET, and started working as a tactics operator in the military company. He works like playing a video game but starts to realize the reality of war during his missions...
There are the original artworks and sketches as it is the first time to show them in public. In this exhibition, you can closely look at his particular style of all the characters as well as the drawing lines and the compositions.
Taking photographs and posting on any social media are allowed with hashtag #しずま画展 and there has been many words and photographs posted on Twitter from the fans.

This report is about "living two different lives" - an ordinary office worker in Switzerland and an idol in Japan.
It said: My two lives have begun to appear ever since I started watching Japanese animation, and now I am one of the biggest otaku in Switzerland. My room is full with goods nicely decorated as interior and I even sleep with 2D girls. The expense spending on my hobby and travel to Japan is about 20,000 swiss francs per year. My favorite otaku place is "Akihabara" where it is the center for otaku culture.
It continues: Otaku is the word for nerd/geek in English - people who are very passionate about Manga Anime Games. He is already a popular person in otaku culture as he has 22,500 followers on Twitter. He tweets in Japanese about his unique lifestyle and shares his experiences with the followers. The new wave of the illustration art exhibition “REFLECTION Creator’s Day Off”
DESIGN FESTA GALLERY is known as the central hub locating in the middle of Harajuku from both traditional and the cutting edge artists and designers. But this exhibition seemed like the 3rd wave, as there are more than 3 of major game or game related companies which have selected their creators to exhibit in one place.
REFLECTION is organized by DeNA Co.,Ltd. collaborating with the partner companies. The organizer and the art director of this exhibition Masafumi Takagi said that the aim of REFLECTION is to be creative on the artboard as individual by using the personal energy and ideas.
There is the variety of artworks which represent their individuality and the youth of the generation.

SF dept. The new pop culture store in Nakano has just launched in September 2015.
Nakano, known as one of the most pop cultural areas of Tokyo and there is a new store where the fascinating prints, feather and leather products can be found. SF dept. is a conglomerate of the designed apparel and the unique products collaborating with Manga Anime contents and the creators.
The most interesting part of SF dept would be the collaborated clothing such as T-shirts and hoodies. If you visit there for the first time your eyes will be caught by the cool prints on T-shirts collaborating with Q Hayashida works "Dorohedoro".
Here is another excellent collaboration with the creator Tsutomu Nihei known as the author of "Knights of Sidonia". This Kanji "TOA JUKO" appears in many of his works as a fictional industrial company.
There are some rare music CDs,
and the officially licensed products like Splatoon T-shirt!
There are so many to see and buy. You should definitely visit SF dept. if you come to Nakano, and the store will be introduced in our next Pop Guide No.2. Wait and see!
